by memekiller May 9, 2007 1:13 PM EDT: Guys, I'm well aware there are terrorists out there that need to be stopped. That's why I so actively oppose this administration -- we ought to go after the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11 as well as in OK. But I have also been paying attention to the long history of this administration using, manufacturing or compromising investigations of terrorist groups for purely political purposes. I linked to two examples. There is also the Pakistani nuke scientist who has been allowed to go free after giving secrets to Korea. Now Seymore Hersh reports the administration may very well be handing government checks to the very people who had their bank accounts frozen for funding terrorist groups because radical Sunnis are opposed to Shiite Iran.

If you want to stop terrorism, stop getting duped every time these guys dust off a Bin Laden video or transfer a suspect to distract you from seeing how little these guys care about catching the terrorists Bush needs to keep power.; Reply to this comment


by ericmichael1 May 9, 2007 12:01 PM EDT: We are not "civilians". Whether we like it or not, al Qaeda and al Qaeda-like terrorists sincerely believe that they are agents of God, fighting a divine war of Good vs. Evil. That makes ALL OF US soldiers in the opposing army, legitimate targets.

If we think "terrorists are just a red herring of the military and political establishment," we have really missed the point. You don't have to be smart to be a terrorist. Look at the bozos who perpetrated the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. If we had just realized THEN that we were at war, perhaps 9/11 could have been avoided, like this Dix attack was avoided.

You don't need smarts to be a terrorist. All you need are weapons, perhaps explosives, and the determination to go down in a blaze of glory for your God. Whether you are an "Islamic" radical or a "Christian" radical. Either one. There are still plenty of McVeigh's and Rudolph's in this country. Or have we forgotten Oklahoma City as well as 9/11?

Terrorism knows no political boundaries...or U.S. political parties, either, for that matter.

To an al Qaida-like radical militant, we are all soldiers in the opposing army in a divinely-supported war. Their world-view is simple: Good vs. Evil.

And, Meme, whether we like it or not, we are viewed as soldiers in the opposing army in a divine war.

I am no Republican. Whatever our political affiliation, it's time for us to get out of denial: about 3,000 are dead or missing JUST from September 11th.

The nation is at war.

Good job by the employee who turned in this cell's DVD to the FBI.

Could there be an al Qaeda connection beyond the internet? A cell member being from Jordan is suspicious, and these things may not be learned until a thorough investigation is completed. The London bombers were also thought, at first, to be entirely homegrown.

But, on the other hand, the virtual world has made it possible even for those who have never been to Pakistan to have connections to hardcore AQ. These cells need little, if any, communication to the actual AQ leadership. They can be entirely self-supporting, making it very difficult for law enforcement to detect.

The administration has a clear track record of hyping or inventing "terror plots" ( http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001000.php ) at opportune times. Even someone as attuned to Bush shenanigans as me got duped by the foiled London plot. I really, really thought that was real, and I think EVERYTHING is a Bush conspiracy. So, I guess you have to do this story, but please, a little journalistic skepticism and follow-up if and when this proves bogus or accelerated for political purposes?; Reply to this comment
