Katie: Puppy Love, Part Deux

Katie wanted to give us an update on the naming of her new puppy. -- Ed.

Thank you all for the great ideas for naming our new puppy! We've gotten tons of them -- and some are pretty darn creative, too. (Scroll down to the comments on the original puppy post to see more -- Ed.)

This morning, my daughter and I kicked around the name "Maddie." It's gone back to arbitration. We still haven't decided. But we'll let you know when we do.

Sooner or later we're going to have to call her something, since "Hey you, dog, don't do that on the rug!" isn't working.

by eek152 December 17, 2006 10:48 PM EST: Ok, while I still stand by my suggestion of naming it 'Cat', I have to agree with Haley that 'Maggie' is a good one. Before you name it Maggie, though, take into consideration that my own Maggie was adopted when I was six years old. Now, I'm 23 and she's STILL alive, feisty, and piddling on the carpet. (For different reasons now.) Ask which one of your girls will be willing to take the dog when they're 30 years old.; Reply to this comment

I think naming things is the hardest thing to do. When I got my puppy it took me at least a week to think about what I would name her. I finally decided Maggie. My dog loves the name and so do I. Maybe you would like it too! My dogs b-day is 1 day after yours. How cool!; Reply to this comment


by skempp December 17, 2006 11:26 AM EST: My favorite name for a dog is Bijou (the American spelling), which means jewel box in French. I had a dog named Bijou for 17 years and she was a joy.

by mjryan December 16, 2006 9:24 PM EST: Oh, don't give up on the Austen inspired names! Especially since today (dec 16) is Austen's 231st birthday. So, more ideas for you...

Janie - for obvious reasons

Cassie - short for Cassandra, Austen's beloved sister.

Lizzy - for the heroine of her most popular work

Fanny - the heroine of Mansfield Park (soon to be adapted (again) with Billie Piper in the lead role

Annie - for Anne Elliot, the heroine of Persuasion, this poster's second favorite Austen novel

Of course, I'm more in favor of a clever, somewhat obscure name (like Bingley; no, I won't let it go!). The explanation of the name will be almost as much fun as saying it: "Bingley! Don't piddle on the couch!" And, really, Bingley is the most agreeable character. :)

And what better guests for your doggies to invite over to the festivities of a Holiday-Welcome Party than the fun loving teacup kittens ?!!. You know, I had never heard of the teacup kittens before either, but in doggie land, I hear they're the talk of the town,and that they really know how to party.
