"Dear Katie..."

Is there a question you're burning to ask Katie? This is your chance.

Send us an e-mail with your question – one question per e-mail, please – and over the next several days we'll sift through them and ask Katie to answer them.

A few ground rules:

Questions must be serious and substantive. (But witty and substantive will also be accepted.) No questions about hair, makeup, shoes or wardrobe. Please. Pretty please.

Questions must be brief and to the point. We may edit them for length, clarity and, yes, grammar.

To keep our e-mail box from being overwhelmed, we're going to ask that you limit yourselves to one e-mail per viewer.

We would appreciate it if you would include your name and hometown . They may be used if your e-mail is chosen and posted.
Got that? So take a moment, scratch your chin, chew on your pencil, and then drop us a line.

We'll post your questions -- and Katie's answers -- in a few days.

Dear Katie,

I was born and raised in the City of Broad Shoulders...I was very disappointed in the results of the vote for the 2016 games; I love the City of Chicago and wanted to share my love for it and this country with the world. We lost!!!
The City of Chicago lost and the United States of America lost!!!

The reaction of the right was salt on the wound. Why would the same people who decried the Dixie Chicks for being unpatriotic cheer for this loss?

I try to keep an open mind with respect for other people's view, but this reaction of "sweet!" is beyond comprehension.

Please call them out on this. It is so sad that the hatred has colored even the Olympic Games.

PS Way to go on the orange shirt!!!

We keep hearing about the Joe Willson deal (both pros and cons) and it shows the basic thing we all know...our country remains deeply split, as it's been for the past decade.

But what we'd really like to know is: "Was it a lie?". Please research and let the public know IF the president's plan to prevent illegal aliens from receiving healthcare under his plan IS the truth. If Joe Wilson is lying, he should be exposed. If the president is lying, he should be exposed. Why doesn't someone research and tell us what the truth really is?

We'd like to know, and not rely on the spin of either political party. Thank you for listening. We hope your staff will check out what is the truth for us.

Hello:

Could you please clarify for your audience that the recent vertebroplasty study from Mayo did not conclude, per the primary investigator, that vertebroplasty doesn't work? In fact the patients with vertebroplasty did get better, just as the patients with the alternate placebo procedure did.

Hello:

If you think your NEW news webpage is an improvement, this is one user or should I say ex-user that tells you otherwise.

I used to watch the evening news almost daily with enjoyment.

Now with the new system,. I take a quick look, get confused and simply leave the site.

Its's quite frankly AWFUL!

Too dark, buttons hidden under the darkness, no clear organization, where to find the starting point? Not sure what is a video and what is what.

I's a real shame as your news content is superior in my opinion.

You have simply driven me away to look for your competitors to see if they might have something easier to use.

FIRE the out-of-touch - "teckeys" that created this boat anchor!

an ex and very disappointed person that WANTS to view your product!

Regards, Mike Johnson

Dear Katie;
We are dual citizens, American and naturalized Canadians and both of us are big Katie Couric - CBS News fans.
We certainly appreciate all of the "war" coverage but never seem to hear anything about the approximately 125 Canadian servicemen killed in Afghanistan. When the bodies return to Canada (Trenton, Ontario airforce base) there is a procession to Toronto along highway 401, approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours and the highway at various spots is filled with people showing respect for their heroes.
We are proud Americans and proud Canadians and would love to see our boys honored as you have honored the American and British casualities.
Keep up the great work and we will keep watching.
Best regards,
Didi and Alan Marks

Hello Katie,

First, Congratulations on your work so far as anchor of the CBS Evening News. It has been a pleasure to tune in every night.

My question is, what are your routines during the week? What time do you come into work and how often are you out of the office doing on site reporting?

Also, can you believe you used to wake up so early?

Thanks and best wishes for continued success,

Christine in San Francisco

Ms.Couric, I have a suggestion for your signoff. Since you've been around the world and your broadcast is seen almost everywhere, why not the following:

"Goodnight fellow world citizens, from CBS News."

Dear Katie:
While not necesarily current news, would it be possible to pull out some of Bush's claims and statements from interviews prior to going into Iraq and analyzethem now? For instance, I remember him being asked by reporters how we know for sure he is not bringing us into another Viet Nam and his evading the asnwer with rhetoric about how patriotic he is etc., implying they were unpatriotic for even daring to ask. The similarities to Viet Nam are now becoming more clear, as Bob Schieffer commented last week (along with pictures of him having served there which was a nice touch).
thanks

Dear Katie:

I know you are still settling in at your new digs with CBS News, but when you get a chance would you consider doing the following:

CBS, ABC, and NBC are reporting on the same stories every night. It makes for really boring viewing.

Pls convince your bosses to let you direct the story assignments of your reporters so you will bring us the news, rather than just repeat it.

Each one of your field reporters can tell you where the stories are before they actually happen. Trust them, let them cover these stories for you and put this good stuff on the air!

Use your boradcast to give us the news...we really need to hear it, not just a repeat of another networks' mush.

Take care!

do you think if the Administration could find bin Laden, that they would, since he seems to be more valuable to them on the lam and if they did catch him, what would they do with him, another Saddam?
