Word of the Day: Panoply

Word of the Day
Over the summer, I heard Katie use this word a lot in interviews with the media. "We want to cover a whole panoply of things," she'd say. Whatzat mean?

panoply (pan'uh ple) n. 1. A complete suit of armor. 2. Any protective covering. 3. Any complete or magnificent covering or array.
I think it's fair to say Katie was using the third definition.

But I also think, doing what she does for a living, she should keep the first one handy. You never know when you might need one.

Why should the words of an admitted drug adict mean anything to me. Rush Limbaugh can keep his opions to himself as far as I'm concerned.

We were looking forward to watching the news with Katie, and the wait was well worth it.

We were impressed by her style and delivery of the news. It is refreshing to watch the news with Katie and for the first time we are recording CBS News when we can't watch it live.

How about this for your "sign-off" message:

I'm Katie Couric and that was the world today-embrace yesterday and anticipate tomorrow.

Ms. Couric,

I think that in an effort to counter the dumbing of America due to insufficient broadcast news depth you should say something like, "That's as much of the news as we have time to tell you, but tonight, before you go to bed, read a book. Think about it and talk to your friends. You owe your country the effort to be informed. America can only be as good as you are. See you tomorrow."

Re: Katie Couric & CBS Nightly News.

Have watched CBS Nightly News for many year and will continue to do so.
I find the CBS Nightly News with Katie Couric very Refreshing.
Don"t care for Snapshot segment.
Suggestion: That Katie close the news with Hawaii's Hangloose

Katie - You were fantastic! I did not like you before but I do now. If you are ever in Glendale, New York please feel free to stop by for some Puerto Rican food. I will not be watching channel 4 at 6:30 anymore.

As Tony the Tiger would say "You were GREAT!!!!"
