Ms. Couric Goes to Washington

Katie is in Washington today, seeing the sights and interviewing someone. I think it's President Bush. (Memo to Katie: while in town, don't forget to call your parents. It's a local call, and they'll be tickled to hear from you and learn what you've been up to, especially since news about you has been, you know, so scarce.)

We're hoping to hear from one of Katie's producers later today, who might have some news to pass along. And maybe some pictures, too.

Meantime, we have some incriminating pictures from last night's after-show party, which we are saving for an appropriate time...

Please, please ---- this is a serious news half hour..I do not care what Couric wears, I resent the cutsie little suggestion that the view send in suggestions for a sign off...give me the news, as Bob did. He is a man of grace and a certain amount of elegance Couric will never have. Why in the world did Couric think she should show up at Bob's farewell? That seems to be typical of her...jump in when she is not wanted. I did not watch the show and have no plans to ever watch this news spot, which from what I hear on TV seems to have become on of those television magazine shows. Bring back a REAL NEWS REPORTER...

That wasnt an interview with the President. That was like one of his phony journalistic commercials.

C'mon...how can Ms Couric let him get away unchallenged about Iraq and the war on terror? Like, what Mr. President did going into Iraq initially have to do with the war on terror?

Softball questions like this interview had....even bush looked bored.

Hey CBS

I am soo tired watching you guys for the last 30 years. You put soo much spin in the news , from walter conkrite to Dan rather to Connie Chang and now Katie.
WHY on earth couldn't you put honest to goodness some real news. We do not need pretty faces or *** makes up , cute or not...People just want to know the truth and the whole truth....no gimmicks. You make up the news to be viewed to collect revenue from your ratings, which is definitely not gear to telling the true news.
We do not need one announcer to bounced us around to 3 different reporter to get the real news in 3 seconds (finally). Just ell us the new by an expert who knows that part well, pretty or ugly does not matter. CNN have always put a pretty face on reporting things (like about indonesian gov) which is totally wrong. Yours the same. You rush the reporting of US planes shot down but never show the technical part how and why it could be shot down, you rush one news to another only to end with a lenghty news on someone baby (who cares?) then joke nd talked wbout it for 2 minutes while the real world shaling news or interview with Israel prime minister is only 5 seconds, bah ..it stinks. I think you need to hire me to manage you news room.

thanks

CBS has gained one additional viewer for the evening news!

Katie - I love you and your charming personality. Yes - there has been lots of press about you recently...mainly because you are laying a phenomenal foundation for females in a primarily male dominated role. Yes - your broadcast is different than that of NBC, ABC, etc. but different is good, not to mention healthy.

Keep your chin up - I'll continue to watch you and your transformation and oh...and for when you begin interviewing Hillary for '08!

(PS - I love the humor on the website - it's great and I'll be returning!)

XOXO

Katie is a refreshing change to "traditional" evening news. I hardly watch evening news because the same things are being told day in and day out no matter who tells it. I can watch CNN, FOX, ABC, NBC, or CBS for 15 minutes once a week and find out the news for the past two weeks and the future two weeks. I find it amusing that many are making comments about her looks, others are focused on the news chosen, but yet she hardly did anything different from all the other news channels! (other than being a woman in a man's world) It's same song and dance on every channel for days on end.
I'm sure there is more out there to be told. Katie, please find that "new" stuff and report it. I'll be watching!

Upon first learning that Katie Couric was selected to anchor the CBS evening news, my wife and I wondered if she would be the Republican hack that she appeared to be based on her previous utterings. It was our hope that we would see real news. Instead, we were treated to inane articles about Tom Cruise's newborn, baby pictures of Prince Charles, and rehashed "revelations" about the resurgence of Taliban forces in Afghanistan. In an effort to appear unbiased, the new segment "freespeech" purports to offer varying viewpoints (unchallanged by debate from any opposition) on a myriad of topics. Your first guest, decrying "smackdown hype" rhetoric which can be applied to all political parties, is to be followed by none other than Rush Limbaugh, the "Prince of Hypocraacy". To even suggest that Limbaugh, a fat, bigoted, pompous junkie is suitable for a prime time news program is nothing short of irresponsible broadcasting, and only supports my contention that, in fact, CBS news is nothing more than a spinoff of Fox news. When you get back to some one like Bob Scheifer, then I'll return to CBS. Until then, look for me on ABC or NBC. Balanced and unbiased, indeed!

I have always enjoyed you on Today and was looking forward to your appearance on the evening news.
I was a little disappointed on your first broadcast when you showed a reporter on an assignment with the enemy?
I would have really appreciated a visit with our veterans and showing that we appreciate what they are doing and bringing up the good things they are doing.
I do not believe thar I have ever seen one item in our media giving credit to our troops and servicemen and women.
This to me is unamerican at its worst and I guess we can call your first broadcast a review of Tokyo Rose???
