(CBS/AP) CHICAGO - Three thieves battered through a wall, crawled close to the floor to dodge motion detectors, and stole six duffel bags filled with human hair extensions from a Chicago beauty supply store.

The thieves broke through a wall from an attached empty storefront at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

The Chicago Tribune reported Saturday that the hair extensions were worth $230,000.

Store owner Don Shin said the criminals took his best merchandise.

"They knew what they were doing. They didn't take any of the cheap stuff," Shin told the paper.

He thinks the culprits will try to sell the extensions on the street or to salons.

Extensions can be made from artificial or human hair. They are used in salons to add length and volume to a hairstyle.

What? Seriously? Don't these people get enough handed to them? Do they realize the store is owned by a hard working American who is struggling to make ends meet in order to stay in business? Some black people give ALL black people a bad rep. Brothers need to set the record straight among their selves. Next time you see someone doing something so stupid tell them how not cool that is. It is stupid too! Everyone can afford cameras these days. It is not an expensive investment. Then you wonder why there are so many blacks in prisons and jails. Well that is why. Here's your sign "L".

The media, as a generalization, helps. We prefer media showing youth-driven things. Full, lush hair is a sign of youth.

As we prefer media showing pretty people. By and large, bald people are not said to be pretty. Bald men, bald women, women with short hair are said not to qualify as being "pretty".

The last time I saw any commercial or advert on television pitching or preaching the acceptance of issues surrounding the aging of people... that was a decade or so ago.

Some of it is human nature - maybe the thieves haven't been getting laid. Then again, I've not (there's a shock) yet I'm not running around doing dumb things... except getting an education to remain economically viable and all that... and in courses other than "basket weaving"... maybe the thieves went into college for basket weaving... or, perhaps, hair weaving...
