Authorities confiscate breast milk ice cream

LONDON - Local government officials said Monday they have confiscated ice cream made with human breast milk from a London shop amid concerns the dessert is unsafe.

A spokeswoman from Westminster City Council said it was responding to two complaints from the public over whether a shop should be selling edibles made from other people's bodily fluids and awaiting guidance from Britain's Food Standards Agency. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with council policy.

The official said the ice cream, marketed as "Baby Gaga" and launched last week, is being tested with the full cooperation of The Icecreamists, the parlor marketing the dessert.

Viruses, including hepatitis, can be passed on through breast milk.

The company has said that the milk was screened in line with blood donor requirements before being pasteurized and churned together with vanilla pods and lemon zest. The dish comes in a martini glass and sells for 14 pounds ($22.50) each.

"As far as we are aware there is no law prohibiting a business from selling breast milk ice cream," Matt O'Connor, founder of The Icecreamists, said in a statement.

The company paid women who responded to an online ad to donate their breast milk and said all of its products meet the "highest and safest" of food standards.

The company said it has had a "huge response" to its "fresh take" on the world of ice cream. The Icecreamists said at the time that its "Baby Gaga" ice cream sold out as soon as it launched on Friday, but that women had signed up to donate more milk.

that's disgusting. a lot of diseases are passed to the baby through the breast milk. and a lot of diseases have an incubation period. if it's not detected right now,it can appear yrs down the line.

So, its fine to drink the bodily fluids of FARM ANIMALS that live is their own feces and walk around in filthy barnyards, but its not Okay to drink the bodily fluids of a human who is clean and bathes regularly? What is wrong with the world when we prefer to drink the milk of filthy farm animals over the milk that is MADE for humans BY humans?

Actually, Bill Clinton had it diverted for personal use. Madeleine Albright has him cradled in her arms right now feeding him the melted concoction from a baby bottle while he plays tug of war with his size 7 pampers cruiser.

I think it makes more sense for us to be drinking human milk instead of cow's milk. By the same token, I also think it makes more sense for cows to drink cow's milk than human milk. My only concern about human milk is the lifestyle that the human women are living. Are they getting plenty of fresh air and sunshine? Are they allowed to freely graze on an open pasture? That would be my only concern with drinking human milk. If I am certain the women are leading a healthy lifestyle and avoiding contaminants, then sign me up for a pair of jugs.

it's in england, not a dnc/rnc thing.

I'm pressure if babies can digest it, and we can digest the milk of other animals, and many things we can't pronounce on ingredients labels... we'll do just fine.

You don't have to shop there if you don't want to!

it is kind of weird though.

Breast milk is meant for the mother's baby that she birthed. I don't drink that much milk. I had raw milk when I was young and that turnt me off from drinking milk and that was years ago.I was told that by foster mother. She got the malk from a farmer. I know milk is pasteurised. Mothers' milk is meant for the baby each has birthed. I would not buy ice cream made of human babies' breast milk. I can't give blood for medical reasons..

That's right. And by the same token, cows' milk is meant, by Nature, for their own calves - not people of any age. It's true that mammals are closely-enough related so that mothers have successfully suckled young of other species, in a variety of unusual circumstances. But all mammal babies are supposed to get weaned as they grow toward adolescence. It's absurd for adult mammals of any species to be drinking milk.

The company paid the women for their milk...my guess is those women could probably make a lot more by advertising on craigslist in the fetish section.
