Imus In The Mourning

CBS TO CEASE BROADCASTING IMUS IN THE MORNING

CBS today announced its decision to cease broadcasting the Imus in the Morning radio program, effective immediately, on a permanent basis.

"From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent," said CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves, in announcing the decision. "Those who have spoken with us the last few days represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society – all races, economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS Corporation and our many other constituencies."

Imus in the Morning was carried on 61 stations across the United States and distributed over the Westwood One radio network. The cancellation of the program comes after statements Mr. Imus made about the young women who comprised the Rutgers University Women's Basketball team, which reached the finals of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship this spring.

Moonves concluded: "I want to thank all those who came to see us to express their views. We are now presented with a significant opportunity to expand on our record on issues of diversity, race and gender. We intend to seize that opportunity as we move forward together."

Now let's call for firing Nancy Giles. She referred to a group of men as "a white boys club" this morning, April 15, during her opinion segment on CBS News Sunday Morning. Do you think she will even be reprimanded? I don't, she's black and a woman. Heaven forbid she have to pay for her racist and sexist comment.

Imagination At Work or Just Narrow Minded and Blind ?

The prejudice, arrogance and idiocy that caused this furror are not unique to Don Imus nor with his firing, are they absent from the rest of the General Electric Company,Columbia Broadcasting Service, America or the world. The firing of Don Imus by NBC%u2019s Steve Capus and CBS%u2019s Leslie Moonves is nothing short of business as usual by any American Corporation with a short sighted solution to a long term problem.Capitalizing on this with some intestinal fortitude and vision could have added some wind to the sails of our laggard societal voyage from black/white to gray.
Mr.Capus%u2019s and Mr. Moonves%u2019s cowardly decisions',are merely an attempt to force the issue away from NBC/CBS and allow it to die a slow death with the least possible negative affect on profitability. These decisions perpetuate a culture of denial in America. Their own stated logic behind the firings is an insult to human intelligence.
In punishing one man, NBC has succeeded in %u201Cfleecing America%u201D of an opportunity for growth in a more spiritual direction. There is no %u201CImagination at work%u201D with this process.
As for CBS, %u201CThe Public Eye%u201D is not as blind as Mr. Moonves may think and %u201CThe Skinny%u201D is a little too narrow minded for me. I%u2019m certain Don Imus has learned a lesson, but the rest of America %u201Cbeyond the walls%u201D of CBS ???
Not so much ! TPDoyle

I think we'd all like an explanation- How can CBS or anyone else in this country support the firing of Imus from a shock jock spot for making a petty comment, yet continuously invite Sharpton on their shows after habitually making racist remarks & inciting violence?
-In 1987 Al Sharpton falsely accused white police officers of raping & killing a 15 year old black child.
-In 1991 he gathered demonstraters together at a black girl's funeral (who was accidentally killed by a Jewish man) & turned it into a riot where blacks were yelling, "kill the jews" & a innocent Jewish man was stabbed to death.
-In 1995 United House of Prayer (a black landlord in Harlem) raised the rent on Freddy's Fashion Mart (a Jewish owned store.) In response to the rent increase the Jewish-owned store incurred, he had to raise the rent to his subtenant (who was a black man.) After hearing about this, Sharpton states, "We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business." He sets up picket lines in front of Freddy's Fashion Mart & customers were called traitors and were spit on and cursed at, protestors yelled "burn down the jew store." On Dec 8 1 of the protestors shot 4 employees & set the store on fire- 7 people were killed.
Imus's remarks on the other hand did NOT cause anyone to be murdered or even hurt- Equal rights should be EQUAL rights.
CBS, MSNBC, & anyone else who supports Sharpton should be embarassed & ashamed of themselves.

Imus being fired is racism in reverse. Al Sharpton has not appoligized to the Duke La Cross boys. He was on TV everyday calling these boys rapists all because it was white boys against a black girl. What happened to inocent until proven guilty. There lives have been totaly turned upside down...and are they guilty--no! What Imus said was not racist and he said it to the whole team (white girls too). Maybe it was in bad taste but that is freedome of speech. CBS should be ashamed, i will be baoycoting your station from now on.

Okay I have a list of who dropped Imus:
General motors, staples, ditech, sprint nextel corp.,glaxo-smithkline,american express, and the largest...proctor&gamble. Please go to P&G website to see their products...too many to list here, but i can tell you that there are over 20 items that I buy on a continual basis, but that can easily be substituted. they could take a real crunch if people are serious about this.

Shame on you CBS and sponsors! What happened to freedom of speech?? Oh yeah, I remember, it is alive and well in the black rapper's lyrics who demean women and promote killing and beating. Soon, I expect Imus will be entertaining us once more on sattelite radio -- will be buying one soon!

When you step back & look @ the big picture, when you compare the Imus uproar with what else is going on in America & the world today, the Imus controversy, while unfortunate, is much ado about nothing!

Over the past week many have posted comments about the double standards on racism in this country, where black on white racism is acceptable, while white on black is not. Neither should be acceptable. Personally, I made my feelings on that clear as well as the true colors of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. This morning, I found something online that virtually mirrored the contentions of many of us, it is a press release dated April 12 from The National Legal and Policy Center.

Although the statement calls for the firing of Don Imus, which many of us felt was too severe given the duplicity that is practiced by the media on racial issues it is nevertheless a refreshing call to the carpet for CBS, NBC, Sharpton and Jackson.

The Imus sponsors I remember are Amex, P&G, and GE. Anybody remember the others? We really need to stand up and be counted on this. These people only pay attention when you touch their pocket books. If enough of us stop purchasing products made by these companies, we may get our point across.

The real criminal....Al Sharpton
- Tawana Brawley case, a 15-year-old black girl was found smeared with feces, lying in a garbage bag, her clothing torn and burned and with various slurs and epithets written on her body in charcoal. Brawley claimed that she had been assaulted and raped by six white men, some of them police officers, in the town of Wappingers Falls, New York. Alton H. Maddox, C. Vernon Mason joined Sharpton in support of Brawley. A grand jury was convened; after seven months of examining police and medical records, the jury determined that Brawley lied about being assaulted by the police. Sharpton, Maddox and Mason were later successfully sued for statements made in connection with the case, and ordered to pay $345,000 in damages.
%u2022 The Crown Heights Riot: In part driven by Sharpton, a visiting rabbinical student from Australia by the name of Yankel Rosenbaum, 29 years old, was killed during the rioting by a mob shouting "Kill the Jew".
%u2022 In November 2005, Sharpton appeared in advertisements for LoanMax, an automobile title loan company. Sharpton was criticized for appearing in the ads, asLoanMax has been accused of predatory lending charging fees, and for marketing them to primarily poor, urban and African American audiences. The ads featuring Sharpton were run in predominantly African American markets. Just some of his crimes.
