Edwards On Couric

(CBS)
"My reaction was that Katie Couric asked questions that the American people are asking themselves, and I think they were completely legitimate questions. And I think the American people deserve answers from me and from Elizabeth to those questions. I mean, I'm asking America to support me and vote for me as their next president, and I think part of the evaluation of a candidate for president is a personal evaluation of the character and integrity and honesty of a candidate. So, no, I thought the questions were fair. Tough. I thought they were tough, but they were fair."

--John Edwards on the questions asked by Katie Couric in her controversial "60 Minutes" interview with the Edwards.

When Katie did Election Results with Bob Schieffer back in November, Mr. Schieffer was giving information about various candidates/winners, when he came to Jon Tester. At that time, like a little kid in Grade 3, Katie chimed in with "A very interesting piece of information about Jon Tester, Bob, is he only has two fingers on his left hand! He lost the other three in a sausage grinding machine"!!! That blew my mind! We were anxious to hear qualifications and accomplishments of candidates, and THAT was the only thing Ms. Couric knew about a candidate who would become a new member of Congress. THIS person is being asked to fill the shoes of great journalists who came before her? If CBS didn't catch that, then they wanted to lose their base. And if that didn't do it, the debacle of an interview/interrogation/inquisition with the Edwards sealed it! CBS has an obvious death wish!

My heart goes out to Mrs. Edwards. But both her and her husband knew that they would be asked tough questions. And this is only the beginning.
After all he should know politics - as the campaign goes on people will forget about his wife and treat him like all the others.

"My person opinion is that the Edwards are long on self serving interest and a bit short on judgment and I think even less of them now than I did a week ago."
Jebby, I've been reading your posts for a while now. The truth is that you had no use for the Edwards, or any other Democrat, a "week ago" either.

"I imagine that Katie did what she did for political reasons. I guess she had to serve the best interest of Hillary. Politics is a brutal thing."
So what you are saying is that even when the so-called "liberal MSM" is hard on the left, it is only to benefit someone else on the left? You righties are so silly.

Before Katie came to CBS I thought she was a big time Dubya supporter. I think she still is, she was a real jerk.

Katie chose to attack a dying woman and her devestated husband.

I'm certainly no fan of Katie but if the Edwrds wanted a little private and quiet time to digest their situation they would not have scheduled an interview.

My person opinion is that the Edwards are long on self serving interest and a bit short on judgment and I think even less of them now than I did a week ago.

I imagine that Katie did what she did for political reasons. I guess she had to serve the best interest of Hillary. Politics is a brutal thing.

I thought the interview was well within bounds. There is no question Katie was the heavy here, but she knows about living in a relationship where someone has cancer. The Edwards' chose "60 Minutes," not "primeTime Live or Dateline. They were well aware of the hard hittingness of the questions. And if John Edwards himself was fine with the questions I don't understand what all the second guessing is about?

Biased, unprofessional, and seemingly a little close to home for Couric to handle. Edwards' step in an environmental direction has been one of the biggest steps in this direction ever taken. Liberal, conservative, or in between, we won't have families or opinions or anything else if we don't have a world. I'm not seeing what there is to be smug about, nor am I seeing her impact and personal investments toward the environment.

Katie chose to attack a dying woman and her devestated husband. When she asked John, "How do you feel?" I wanted him to look at her and say, "Well how did you feel when you found out Jay was dying?" America's Sweetheart? Yeah, right! She is cold and calculating and ignorant and rude. Funny, when she interviewed Bush when she first started on the evening news, she gigggled like a 16 year old girl on a date. She is a disgrace to all journalists. She has proven that she was nothing more than a fluff piece who should have stuck to mornings. She has set women back right to the 1940's. Send her home to be with her own "Baby Birds" and get a real journalist to do the news.

She showed lazy attack journalism by using "some people say" without giving those comments any credence by quoting a source. She couched the same "question" over and over in condescending, personalized language. She is not a journalist. CBS thought they could buy her fan base when they bought her. She should be relegated to the schlock she passed off as entertainment on the morning show. I lost all respect for her during that interview and I will never watch 60 Minutes as long as she is allowed to be on it.
