Boeing locks in biggest plane order ever

Boeing

NEW YORK - Boeing (BA) has locked in its biggest order ever.

The Chicago airplane manufacturer said Tuesday that it has finalized an order from Indonesian carrier Lion Air for 230 planes worth a combined $22.4 billion. Lion Air also has the rights to buy 150 more. The deal is the largest commercial airplane order ever for Boeing Co. by both dollar value and number of airplanes.

The order includes 201 of Boeing's redesigned 737, which it calls the Max, and 29 extended range 737-900s.

Until this deal was confirmed, Boeing's biggest confirmed order was from Southwest Airlines Co. That order was for 208 planes worth $19 billion at list prices.

Lion Air, Indonesia's largest private airline, currently has a fleet of 76 planes, according to Airfleets.net. Sixty-eight of those are Boeing 737s.

All fine and dandy if the whole airplane is manufactured in this country but it's not. Typical Boeing airframe is only put together here, about 40% of major structural components are build elsewhere, such as wings, rudders, flight surfaces, some engines, landing gears as well as numerous avionics components, not like in the old days when a 707 was really mostly built here !

Almost all the top ten worse states in this country are republican right to work state. These states are willing to sacrifice the safety and wages of the employees for big profit for the CEO'S. Good pay and great, safe work environment should not be mutually exclusive.

The Republicans lose out again. If they would have agreed to help Boeing be competitive (like AirBus subsidies by the European Union), they could have known about the order before it was announced. Nice little bump for the portfolios for everyone in Congress. Well, ok, for at least their spouses, kids, and golf buddies. A Congressman can't live by government contracts alone.

Only $97.4 M each. Now why couldn't I win the Power Ball last weekend. I'd love to have my own plane. Wonder if I could get a discount if I received it stripped so I could fit the insides suitable to my needs.

Well, if the union follows SOP, now is the time to strike for MORE! Also, if the union gets out of the way, MAYBE Boeing can actually deliver the planes on-time and not have to pay huge penalties for late or reduced orders.

That's how much you know, the unions don't strike other then over worker safety issues or contract violations. I believe Boeing and the union just negotiated a contract not long ago.

Next time you have a weekend off from your job, make sure you thank the union for making it possible. Next time you have a paid vacation, don't forget to send the union a thank you card. Next time you have a sick leave, please, say thank you to the union. Next time you walk into a safe work environment, let the union know how appreciative you are. Why you are at it, thank the union for your medical insurance and penssions.
Everyone appreciate the safety record of aviation. The skills and dedication of those union workers make it possible for you to get in an airplane and not give it a thought that you are actually in a canon. The least you can say is thanks to unions around the globe who have helped and continue to help improve our standard of living for over a hundred years.
Their blood and sweat continue to create a better and brighter world.

It was UNION Workers building GREAT Planes that produced this... so much for the Neocon Propaganda! It was a sad day in this nations history when we turned our backs on these American's. Little did we know at the time but THEY were carrying us ALL on their backs.

Orders for planes mean absolutely nothing. Something happens in the financial world, and those orders get canceled quicker than you can blink. Instead of counting the eggs, just count the number of chicks (planes) produced/paid for.
