(CBS News) On Friday, Ryan Lochte tried to clear up comments his mother made the day before to Today.com about his dating life.
The U.S. swimmer's mother, Ike Lochte, told Today.com on Thursday that her Olympian son "goes out on one-night stands. He's not able to give fully to a relationship because he's always on the go."Read more: Ryan Lochte's mom says Olympic swimmer "goes out on one-night stands"
In a follow-up interview with Today.com, Ryan Lochte, 27, said, "I know what she meant by it. What she meant is that I'm not in a relationship so I do go on dates. It's not that negative part ... She had nothing negative."Complete Coverage: 2012 London Olympics
Ike Lochte also did some explaining, telling USA Today Sports, "All I wanted to say is that he's so sensitive about not wanting to hurt a girl dating, so he just goes and dates and takes out a girl for maybe one or two dates and doesn't have a relationship because he doesn't have (time) and it's not fair to the women."
She added, "I'm not used to this. ... What kind of mom is going to say that [about her son having one-night stands]? Especially being a mom and having two daughters."
