Cops: IndyCar driver crashed through garage exit

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Police say IndyCar driver Marco Andretti drove through the broken gate of a Pennsylvania municipal parking garage instead of paying a fee.

Bethlehem police initially said that Andretti was among three men who pushed the exit gate and left without paying, according to The Express-Times of Easton. Bethlehem police Lt. Mark DiLuzio told the paper later Friday the matter is still under investigation.

Andretti says it was the driver behind him who broke the gate. He says the man became agitated that Andretti was taking so long to pay. He says the system wasn't accepting his cash or credit cards.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. No charges had been filed as of Friday night.

The 24-year-old grandson of racing legend Mario Andretti lives in the area.

Marco Andretti has been making his own mark in the racing world, however. He finished second in the 2006 Indianapolis 500 during his debut season, and won his second IZOD IndyCar Series race at Iowa Speedway in June 2011.
