Daryl Hannah to Obama on climate change: Actions louder than words

While President Obama made action on climate change a key feature of his State of the Union address Tuesday, by Wednesday it wasn't enough for some. Activist and actress Daryl Hannah pointed out that "actions speak louder than words."

In Washington for a protest, the movie star and environmentalist didn't criticize the president or his speech, but she did suggest he should have done more to address climate change. The most important step, according to her: fully reject the Keystone XL pipeline.

Doing so, Hannah told CBS News's Bill Plante, would be a way for the president "to actually let his actions stand up to his words."

The Keystone XL pipeline expansion from Alberta, Canada through Nebraska has been on hold since 2011, when the president delayed the project pending additional environmental review. The State Department is currently reviewing the extension. Environmentalists oppose the project because they say it will damage the environmentally sensitive areas it would run through, and it encourages the process of extracting fuel.

Hannah explained the process in her own words, saying the pipeline would not only "bring the dirtiest and most energy-intensive type of extreme extraction through our most precious water, aquaphors, and soil and ranching farmlands... but it will also open the doors to expansion of the tar sands."

Extracting oil from tar sands, according to Hannah, can "absolutely decimate ecosystems," the water, soil and land.

Hannah and dozens of others including Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune, civil rights veteran Julian Bond and 350.org founder Bill McKibben protested in front of the White House, tying themselves to the gate and refusing to budge when the U.S. Park Police revoked their permit to protest.

Hannah was arrested, along with many others including Robert Kennedy, Jr.

Making the world safe for mermaids, eh? But no one thinks building or not building the pipeline will have the slightest effect on Canada, and might end up in a solution even more environmentally risky for sea folk.

When I read about how we have experienced yet another global warm record, or any of the many record breaking weather events of late, my heart sinks. And, they just keep coming.

I get this sickening pit at my bottom of my stomach that won't go away. And, I fear that if I don't do something, my punishment will be Al Gore haunting me in the afterlife. Forever and ever. Now, I just can't let that happen, can I? He's much too professorial to be much fun I'm sure, and when I die (most likely in a new record breaking beyond biblical climate event), I just want to have fun. So, no Al please, not that, anything but that.

As such, I have decided to attend the Climate Action on the National Mall this Sunday, the 17th at 11:30 AM by the Washington Memorial. I don't want to go, I have better things to do, but I must and so I shall. It is for all of our sakes, young and old at this point. And to get that Al out of my future dead head.

Science has full consensus to agree that they don't agree on whether climate change will be a crisis or not. Science has never agreed it will be a crisis, only might be a crisis and it's been 27 years.
Not one single IPCC warning is not qualified with "maybe" so how close to the edge of irreversible warming will the lab coats take us before they declare it WILL happen?

How many climate blame believers does it take to change a light bulb?
None, but they DO have full consensus that it 'WILL' change, maybe.

Actually, if oe wishes to see visual tangible proof of climate change view the recently released docufilm abut nature photographer James Balog and his Extreme Ice Survey. In recent years time lase photography of the glaciers of Iceland, Greenland, Alaska and Montana have rapid recession captured for all to itness by his team. Much faster than anytime in recent Earth's past. Paleoclimatc records clealy show, when CO2 lvels rise, so does he planet's temperature.
The IPCC warnings have been too conservative, global warming is much worse than previously predicted. Unfortunately, in the comment section folks can state otherwise.
