Clarissa Ward on reporting from Syria

CBS News' "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer spoke to CBS News' foreign correspondent Clarissa Ward about her coverage of Syria. Schieffer said Ward and producer Ben Plesser "slipped past Syrian government guards and risked their lives to bring us the story and pictures of the revolution there."

On their journey over the Syrian border into Turkey, Ward told Schieffer they were "literally wading through canals in the dead of night. So certainly it was a very difficult exercise."

In response to a Schieffer's question about how long the rebels can continue to fight the government, Ward said that they are not getting any support outside of Syria and "what they're doing is extremely difficult and without some kind of support it's unfathomable, to me at least, how they could continue at this pace for any real length of time."

Whatever happens in Syria, it should happen without a single US airplane flying over Syria or a single set of US government boots touching Syrian soil. Let's stay the hell out of this - for a change. If the Arab League wants to intrvene they should do what they want - without any involvement from the USA. This means no aircraft, no troops, no satellite intel, no CIA...nothing.

Syria is a done deal. Assad remains supported by Russian nuclear subs and an aircraft carrier in Syrian waters. The Russians and Chinese have apparently made it quite clear to the United States that regime change in Syria is not an option. The current article is dated, Syria is purging the country of foreign press for the last ten days. In Egypt and Libya the muslim brotherhood is forming new alliances with both China and Russia. Overall the U.S. diplomacy in the middle east has fallen into a shambles and benefitted both the Chinese and Russians who are making friends and allies throughout the middle east. Overall it appears the opportunity to contain Iran and its nuclear ambitions has past, not a pleasant situation, but what now has to be dealt with.

I'm so happy to know that Ms. Ward and her photographer/producer is safe. I appreciated her work, but I was so concerned.

There seems to be no sanity in all of these conflicts: Sunni, Shia or Alawite.

Before you go saying we have to commit to another war. Think this.

None of Syrias neighbors or the whole region thinks anything should be done. Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon all share a border with Syria. Nobody in the region is getting involved. Russia and China included.

If they want something done it should be done by them.

So lets save ourselves a few trillion bucks. K.

Preparing The Theater For A Strike On Iran
The age old strategy of divide and conquer is taking place in Syria.
Assad belongs to the Alawite sect which is aligned with the Shiites. The rebel forces( so called protestors) are Sunni. America and Israel are backing the rebel forces because they want regime change in Syria, America wants a Sunni government installed in Syria.
Assad's Alawites Syria has a defense pact with Iran, when one country is attacked by foreign forces the other country will assist. The defense pact was signed in 2006, and Iran and Syria say they are commited to the pact. If Assad is toppled and a Sunni government installed, a Sunni Syria would be hostile towards Iran. Iran is a Shiite nation which has close ties with the Assad regime.
I hope I do not have to explain that military tensions is bluiding between Iran and America/Israel. America will soon have 3 carrier groups in the vacinity of Iran, with a fourth(USS George Bush) one day sail away. Israel is pushing America to consider the military option against Iran, Israel believes sanctions will not stop Iran's nuclear program.
The road to Tehran is through Damascus, toppling Assad is a stepping stone towards preparing the theatre for a strike on Iran. America is voicing concern over the humanitarian conditions in Syria, but America's true adgenda is regime change. Toppling Assad makes a strike on Iran much more easy.
Assad's Syria also supports Lebanon's Shiite Hezbollah, a Sunni Syria would cut its support to Hezbollah. Toppling Assad,therefore, kills two security concerns of Israel. America's foreign policy doesn't revolve around humanitarian concerns, America foreign policy revolves around Israel.

The AL calls for a force that will have no contact with the Assad regime, but will have contact with the rebels. The force will assist in political transition. This is no peacekeeping force, but another tactic for regime change, expect vetoes from Russia and China( If it even reaches the UN Security Council, good
