NRA "disappointed" with Biden gun meeting

After meeting with the National Rifle Association and other stakeholders on the issue of gun violence, Vice President Joe Biden today suggested that there's a growing consensus with respect to how to rein in the problem. The NRA, however, came out of today's White House meeting with a much more pessimistic response.

The group charged that Biden's task force on gun violence is pushing an agenda to "attack the Second Amendment."

"We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment," the NRA said in a statement. "While claiming that no policy proposals would be 'prejudged,' this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners - honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation's most pressing problems."

The NRA was one of several groups to meet with Biden and other administration officials today. Biden, the author of the original Assault Weapons Ban, was tapped by President Obama to lead a task force aimed at developing actionable solutions to gun violence in America in the aftermath of the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut last month.

In between today's meetings, Biden outlined a series of recommendations he plans to give Mr. Obama, including universal background checks, restrictions on high-capacity magazines, and increased federal capabilities for effectively researching gun violence. Biden also stressed ongoing discussions about the importance of including the mental health community in the conversation.

"There's an emerging set of recommendations, not coming from me, but coming from the groups we've met with, and I'm gonna focus on the ones that relate primarily to gun ownership, what types of weapons can be owned," Biden said.

The NRA in its statement said it was prepared to have a "meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals."

Instead of letting "law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen," the group said it will now take the conversation to members of Congress, of both parties, "who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works -- and what does not."

The NRA is nothing more than a gun LOBBY.The gun industry pays the NRA. The NRA,then, uses these monies to leverage Republican politicians to assure that no common sense gun laws are passed. However, the third word in the second amendment is "regulated." As a supreme court judge stated,"the right secured by the second amendment is NOT UNLIMITED."

And we're supposed to believe that right-wing extremists like you actually know what is constitutional and what is illegal, when all we've been hearing from people like you is your endless hatred and nasty attacks?

Funny how every far-right extremist is a constitutional expert today!

All you need to do, instead of listening to the leftwing extremist neoMarxists...is to read the Constitution, and then read what the Founders said about it, and about government in general.

Once you do that, you will realize that you are 180 degrees from them. And since they wrote it, they are right...and you are wrong.

I dont need to be involved in the argument, because I support them.

Why are they disappointed? Biden along with Obama are rabid anti gun advocates who care nothing about the rights written in our US Constitution. They want to push their agenda as quickly as possible before the hysteria dies down. Biden did not have any intent to listen. It was all a show pretending to listen to the opposition. The only way to oppose these two and others like them is through Congress and the Courts. Elections have consequences. The handouts gained for a few are not wort the price we all may pay while these two continue their attack on the US Constitution.

This, from an extremist right-wing hack that supports life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for petty thieves and shoplifters.

Social 'conservative', fiscal "liberal."

In other words, lets save a dime, and a little self-righteous pride, by wasting the whole damn dollar.

ZERO cred, in my view.

VP Biden: 'No silver bullet' against gun violence

Obviously this is very true, but doing nothing like we have been doing, or listening to the NRA and putting even more guns on our streets, is certainly not going to slow the frequency of these horrific mass shootings!

Obviously you have never served (yet I imagine you are a huge chickenhawk), since the oath of enlistment every military person takes, includes:

"I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;"

That's "ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC"

Defend the Constitution! Which means, when the government issues orders not in line with the Constitution, when it is operating outside of the Constitution, then its orders are illegal and of no force.

I'm disappointed that NONE of the meetings were televised! If this is supposed to be an open, frank, and national discussion, then why not have the guts to show us all points being made by all parties at the table; pro-gun, pro-gun control, middle of the road, etc. Nope, just more closed-door meetings and I'll just bet it will be some fat bill hot off the press put before congress with no time for anyone, including the fools that have to vote on it, TO READ IT!

As a far left democrat I believe that the constitution is a "living" ever changeable document that can be revised to fit my ideological beliefs. I believe that if we institute more and stricter anti-gun laws that in turn make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to obtain guns it will keep us all safer. We must rely on others for our own self-defense as we honest law-abiding citizens are incapable of providing such a defense on our own. These new anti-gun laws if instituted should keep mental lunatics that are hell bent on slaughtering defenseless innocent people from carrying out those evil acts. The stoneybrook killer only had ten minutes to go from room to room before killing himself when law enforcement started closing in on him, thank god no one else had a weapon or it could have further endangered innocent lives. Thank you all for voting Obama!

I did NOT vote for Obama.... That is something YOU will have to deal with. THIS is the reason you think the way you do. It has been said over and over that , "When you take away guns from law abiding citizens, then only criminals and mentally deranged people will have guns". How come NO ONE from the Democrat party or the ones that claim to be liberal are wanting to hold the psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health care providers, prison parole boards, or mental health institutions accountable for letting these people walk around with these problems? I DONT CARE how big a gun it is, how big the clip is, or what caliber it is..As long as it will stop so madman in a mall, school, movie theater, or anywhere else they want to go to carry out murderous acts on innocent people. I dont think you would either when you reach back for a weapon that isnt there, and pull up a credit card. Do you HONESTLY believe that when your SAVIOR< OBARRY speaks and tell all those people that he has signed an EXECUTIVE ORDER, and guns will be illegal, that he will be the first one to walk down the streets of CHICAGO, and ALL thos egang members and criminally insane will just say , "OH CRAP, Guns are illegal? HERE,TAKE OURS TOO !" Want gun control?? OK, Stop allowing such QUICK background investigations. Make them complete and total. People should have to pass a "certified" training course, at THEIR expense, showing knowledge in the weapon, their actions , and their proficiency in their use. That they carry a certificate on them at all times, and that the weapons at their homes be secured in a gun safe that ONLY the owner of the weapon has access to. And that permit to have weapons in the home will NOT be allowed to anyone that has a person that has mental health issues NOW, or anytime in their lives... THERE, problem solved. AND, MY Constitutional rights are in tact....Thank you for creating such an asinine letter , that could be so easily taken apart by someone that has a brain. JUST ONE MORE QUESTION....should be an easy one for ya. WHY do ya think a cop bar NEVER gets robbed ? Is it because there are a bunch of "off duty" cops there..OR because there are a bunch of "OFF DUTY COPS WITH GUNS THERE ??
