New polls show presidential race neck-and-neck

Two national polls released in the last 24 hours show that the presidential race remains a dead heat, with GOP nominee Mitt Romney gaining ground in one survey but losing steam in another.

But despite the deadlocked national numbers, President Obama seems to be retaining a small but statistically significant lead in pivotal Ohio.

Yesterday afternoon's Washington Post/ABC News poll found the candidates nearly tied among likely voters, with 49 percent of respondents backing Romney and 48 percent backing the president. The results were flipped from a week prior, when the same poll showed Mr. Obama ahead of his challenger by a single point. Both results were within the poll's margin of error.

Notably, the Washington Post/ABC News poll showed Romney leading the president by 12 points among independents, a high watermark for the Republican with that group.

The survey, conducted between October 19 and 22, polled 1,382 likely voters.

But if the president's campaign was unnerved by the new numbers from Washington Post/ABC News, they may take heart from today's national tracking poll from Gallup, which shows that Romney's lead has dwindled to 3 points in the wake of Monday's foreign policy debate.

Romney outpaces the president among likely voters in the Gallup survey, 50 percent to 47 percent, but the gap has closed significantly since last Sunday, when Gallup put the Republican nominee ahead by 7 points, 52 to 45 percent

Even yesterday, Gallup's survey put Romney ahead by five points but did not appraise voters' reaction to the final presidential debate; today's survey included one of post-debate reaction.

Gallup's national tracking poll surveys roughly 3,000 likely voters over 7 days. Today's three-point spread is just outside Gallup's two-point margin of error.

Finally, despite the inscrutable national numbers, a Time Magazine poll released today shows Mr. Obama holding onto a five-point lead in the crucial battleground state of Ohio, besting Mitt Romney 49 to 44 percent.

The results corroborate the latest Ohio numbers from Quinnipiac/CBS News, which showed the president leading Romney, 50 to 45 percent, in the Buckeye State.

The Time poll surveyed 783 likely Ohio voters. The survey's margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

I'm seeing all this Obama this and that,I gave him a chance. He told the whole country he would clean all this mess up in 4 years. But in the 1st 2012 debate. He and Bill Clinton said no one could do it in 4 years. So there was a lie.I look back at the world and see this country suffering. So he had his chance so we need to give some else a shot.So Romney gets my vote.He has 25 years of building companies and creating jobs. What about Obama this shouldn't be a race thing. We are all Gods children.I would hate to see what happens if Obama serves four more years.I like Obama I really do.But this is my opinion.Everyone has one.But reading some of this comments. There's a lot of hate against people's opinions

Being a first time voter, I am proud to say I voted for Mitt Romney. Barack Obama has run our country into the ground. All I hear people complaining about is the fact that Romney wants to cut pell grants, and there wont be equal rights for women. I lived in a household run by welfare for 18 years, and it's something I don't want for anyone. Are people really upset because they're going to have to get off their *** and get a job? Romney is a great man, a business man, and he doesn't have to have people like Jay Z with him to make him look good; he doesn't have to make a commercial about the super storm to show he cares. He wants to create job for our country, and being from the state with the highest unemployment rate, it's really important to me. I am only 18 years old, and I know that this election isn't going to be as close as people think. It may be neck and neck at the moment, and Obama may be ahead when it comes to the states' electoral votes, but I believe Mitt Romney will come out in the end.

You are an idiot. Do you plan on going to college? I guess not or you might think twice about your statement. Without Pell grants how are you going to school being in a welfare home. I guess you plan on being in a debt long time.

Romney needs to win! I mean I don't like him either, but Obama has put us into TRILLIONS of dollars in debt. He has made EVERYTHING so ******* expensive, and so many people have gotten on food stamps since he got into office. (Including me.) He is for abortion! He borrows 4 BILLION dollars a DAY! He has lost us jobs ( I don't give **** what anyone says, he hes DEFINITELY not provided jobs for us, this a load of ****!) He has put us through so much **** that we CANNOT afford 4 more years of this ****. America, please don't be stupid again. Think about it again and vote for Romney. (No i do not like him either, just choose him because he isn't as bad as Obama.) Though I am not old enough to vote yet since I am only 16, I just want to voice my opinion and few of the VERY horrible facts about Obama.

Right...
Obama went to war with Iraq and put us into debt. The Real Estate crash happened all because of Obama...He got into this situation after Bush and has started to clean things up. Get your facts straight and watch something other than Fox news. Romney hasn't even stated HOW he is going to start trying to fix our economic problems! He just said he will. Well I think seeing a plan would actually help.

Oh, and by the way you say "don't be stupid again". Are you trying to say that voting McCain/Palin would have been better? Come on!

Number one little boy, with a name like that and your rhetoric, you my friend, are an embarrassment. People like you are part of the problem in this country. You, and people like you, cannot discern facts from opinion. Look at real numbers and statistics, and realize President Obama is not superman, but not the devil. He is a mediocre president. You people are afraid, but too lazy to do actual research. You want war, but complain when the country is in debt. WARS MAKE UP OVER 2/3rds of the debt. We spend 4 times more on military than any other. More than all other countries COMBINED. You eat every shred of information with no thought to the spin put on it. Most of the money Abortion is legal and will stay that way because secular views should not impact the government. Contrary to popular belief we are not a Christian nation. We are a nation founded on the principal of religious freedom. Separation of church and state is a fundamental part of our constitution. War has made our dollar worthless; the federal reserve prints money without any oversight. The person you want to vote for has the same foreign policies that got us wrapped into this mess we are in, and no it wasn't Obama. Cut off the propaganda machine that is Fox News, and try to learn something.

SPROCKETMAN says:

"We should reward honest earnings and expose fraudulent profiteering. Most honest wealthy including many you mentioned support paying a bit more to help reduce our post Bush era deficit." - SPROCKETMAN

----The wealthy already pay the bulk of our tax burden.
Taxing the very rich, such as Oprah, Steven Spielberg, Jay-Z, the Kennedys, the Clintons, the Gores, the Obamas, the Bidens, etc., is an admission of failure on the part of the president.

If we had a robust economy via job creation, we wouldn't have to penalize ANYONE.

Why not just advertise to the world, "My policies are not working. I have failed miserably. Rather than growing the economy, I will have to resort to beg, borrow, and steal from successful individuals. Yeah, that's it, let them take the hit! It's their fault. The most productive and successful people need to bail me out because I have crushed the middle class and created more poor people."

And, as a reminder, the so-called Bush-era deficit occurred under a Democrat-controlled congress and senate.

"sure
lets elect the guy who sends em overseas
and his money to the caymans
and has something to hide with his tax returns
amazing how duped half the country is
2 kinds of republicans
1. millionaires
2. incredible suckers
which category do you fit in to?"

"lets elect the guy who sends em overseas"

---Obama gave $50 billion dollars to GM to build companies in China. The president and first lady vacation abroad with approximately 100 staff and crew. They sleep, eat, shop, and spend money in other countries. Don't you think patriotism should start at home?

It is reported that by 2033, 51% of the jobs in the U.S. will be foreign-sponsored. Have you ever heard of companies such as Anheuser-Busch, Nestle, IKEA? That's just the tip of the iceberg. The number of jobs leaving is easily made up by the number of jobs being in-sourced. You've fallen for one of the liberal hot button issues they like to rouse their base with.

There are business reasons for businesses to operate off-shore. Ask Hollywood. They film on location all over the world.

"and sends his money to the caymans"

---There is nothing illegal about sheltering money from taxes. The Clintons set up a foundation which is one of the biggest tax shelters one can establish. They pay next to nothing in taxes.

"and has something to hide with his tax returns"

---Gov. Romney has provided his tax returns. It is Obama who is has something to hide by blocking his education records. Among other revealing information, it is speculated that he registered as a foreign national. Those darn paper trails. They will trip you up every time.

"amazing how duped half the country is"

---If 16 trillion going on 20 trillion isn't enough to wake people up, then duped is not a strong enough adjective.

"2 kinds of republicans
1. millionaires"

---If so, they are in good company. The Obamas, the Bidens, the Kennedys, the Clintons, the Gores, (the Clintons and the Gores became millionaires during the Bush years), the Kerrys, Oprah, George Clooney, Jay-Z, Steven Spielberg, George Soros, Angelina Joli, Brad Pitt, Bon Jovi, and most of the Hollywood establishment - all multi-millionaires and billionaires.

"2. incredible suckers"

---Falling for a community organizer with no experience and who has never held a job in the private sector...oops, sorry, those would be Democrats.

Before I would be concerned about the "race" card issue; I'd first make sure that I understand how to speak and write in standard English (it may come down to that when "they" decide to deport people without cause). I don't trust any of 'em! I'm a Black American and I'm not voting for either of the "slicksters"!!! How about no one in America ever votes again? That'll show 'em!! By the way....I'm writing in Spongebob; he seems to be way smarter than both Obama and Willard (oops, I meant Nitt Romney). Dangit, I did it again :-D

Well, unfortunately there is still racism in the United States and BET is going to address it since it is a Black Entertainment show. Have you seen what people are saying about Obama? About him being black and keeping the "white" in the White House? Obviously not! You are mexican american and you support Romney? Interesting since he has made it quite plain that he doesn't give a crap about minorities. Great job voting away your rights based on a television show. If he wins, we will see how he supports your community. Just remember that you helped vote him in. Just so you know, I am not black. I am white. I know the difference between someone who actually cares for the United States citizens and someone who lies and buys his way into politics. Makes me sad that you don't see that your fellow mexican americans will suffer if Romney actually wins.

VOTERX Writes:

"Anti-outsourcing bill blocked in US Senate Published on Wed, Sep 29, 2010
Senate Republicans successfully blocked the passage of an anti-offshoring bill that would have denied tax breaks to US companies which move jobs overseas.....Under current law, companies can deduct the cost of moving people and equipment overseas from their taxes....." - VOTERX

-----Do you know how many foreign companies operate in the U.S.? It is reported that by 2033, there will be 51% foreign-sponsored jobs in the U.S. Have you ever heard of Anheuser-Busch, Nestle, IKEA? That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Obama gave $50 billion dollars to GM to build companies in China. That is the only way the Chinese will buy GM vehicles because it is too expensive to ship them there. As well, they are too expensive to build here.

The rationale is that the ground work is laid here. It takes several years of technical and design engineering before a vehicle is ready to be assembled. Those are high-paying jobs here at home. To ship millions of vehicles across an ocean does not make economic sense when they can be built on site. China is a massive market.

The other option is remove the largest market in the world from the equation.

There is nothing from preventing a company to close shop and open somewhere else. The U.S. does not have a monopoly on business. If you want to see a mass exodus of companies leaving the U.S., just give Obama four more years. I am sure he has more destruction he can unleash on the economy.

A paycheck does not know or care who the employer is or where they are from. A global economy works both ways. In case you haven't noticed, we have entered a new century.

There are business reasons for businesses to operate off-shore. Ask Hollywood. They film on location all over the world.
