Romney promises struggling Nevada he'll get the economy "cooking"

Few other states in the nation are struggling to pull their economy together the way Nevada is. Mitt Romney today told voters in the swing state that, if they elect him, he could get their economy "cooking" again.

"This country is going to come back," Romney promised a crowd of about 2,000 in Reno. "You are going to see this country come back in a major way."

The Republican candidate touched on the major parts of his agenda, promising to repeal President Obama's health care law, rein in the deficit, hold China accountable for "not playing by the rules" and foster small business growth.

Nevada's unemployment rate is the highest in the country at 11.8 percent. While that's an improvement from August, when it was 12.1 percent, Romney said, "We can't afford four more years like the last four years."

And while foreclosure filings in Nevada have dropped significantly in recent months, the state remains hard hit by the struggling housing industry. Romney warned of more of the same with a second Obama term.

"If he's re-elected I'm convinced you're going to see the values of your homes continue to bump along in the basement," he said. "If I'm elected--when I'm elected - we're going to do this, we're going to finally get this housing market going and get jobs and get this economy going."

With the race tightening nationally, both candidates this week are racing through key states like Nevada, which Mr. Obama is traveling to today as well. Mr. Obama has an edge in the early ballots cast so far in Nevada, and his campaign today suggested that Romney will soon give up the state.

"When you look at early vote in Nevada," campaign senior adviser David Plouffe argued, "I wouldn't be surprised if Governor Romney's last trip to Nevada was this week, because it doesn't look good for him. And I think in an honest moment they will say that themselves."

Romney, however, told the crowd today that "the Obama campaign is slipping and shrinking" while his campaign is "a growing movement across the country."

He told voters, "I need you to find one person who voted for Barack Obama last time and get them to vote for us this time."

Isn't it interesting...article in the WallStreet Journal today citing how the CEOS of major corporations are admitting that to get this economy on track we will need to reduce the deficit which will HAVE TO INCLUDE revenue increases and responsible spending cuts...notice they didn't say TAX CUTS...the reality is that Mitt's plan will not work to bolster the economy...this is just rhetoric. Also heard how Paul Ryan is trying to pave the way with Conservatives to accept the inevitable fact that the wealthiest of us will have to pay a little more....the $2.5 dollar cut to $1.00 in revenue equation is the ticket to bolster this economy and chief economists have already indicated 12 million jobs will be created regardless of who is in office...so what is Romney promising? What does this man stand for? And in the midst of the world economy and unrest..I trust Obama to have the right foreign policy focus. Yes I am a moderate republican tired of the right wing conservative deadlock...

As an undecided independent, I would like nothing better than a viable option for change. However, from information provided to date, I don't see a viable alternative.

We have witnessed how fast an unregulated republican president can bring down and squeeze the American middle with no apparent damage to themselves.

P.S. The RNC has already stated that they are waiting until after the election to decide how to alter their position and policies. Wait and see versus we need to do something for the American worker is just another RNC inconsistency.

Promising energy independence with the only known job proposal being a pipeline that places Canadian oil on the world market ... just another inconsistency? How does this all work Mr. Romney, please explain ...?

Is this more of the trickle-down, trust me nonsense ...?

Oh ya ... trust me. If he knows how to create jobs, why does he need to be in government to do it? I thought government is not the answer?

More inconsistency? If the jobs are there, just do it ...

A friendly reminder:

Protest against Republican politicians and their policies in this news forums or others won't change reality on the ground.

Talk is cheap but actions are priceless! Please get out and vote!

If you are patriotic, truly love your families and concern about your children's and your grand children's future, then please go out and vote.

let's deny this used car salesman Mitt Romney the presidency and evict all backward, stupid, anti-science, anti-women Republicans out of office.

Let's re-elect President Obama and vote in Democrats so we can retain control of the Senate and regain the control of the House. This one action of yours will have more impact than all of your writings combined!

Thanks for reading.

Pie in the Sky: I'LL RAISE THE DEFENSE BUDGET TO WARTIME LEVEL. I'LL CONTINUE THE RICH TAX AT BUSH LEVEL. I'LL CREATE 12 MILLION JOBS. I'LL BALANCE THE BUDGET. I'LL SHOW YOU HOW AFTER THE ELECTION. Reality: 12 yrs of Bush taxes have sunk the nation in debt and destroyed 10 million jobs. Clinton created 24 million jobs and had a budget surplus. Gov Romney: stop taking us for suckers. Won't change Obama for a Lying Machine.

Quite honestly this new Mitt Romney is more generous than Santa Claus. He promises everyone a tax break, won;t cut anthing important, and the economy will just grow 10000% to make up for the revenue shortfall.

No worries....unless you're an economics or math major.

I'm still trying to figure out where all this demand is going to grow from during a worldwide demand shortage (i.e. EU malaise, etc.)

Money shortage at the top is not the problem....it's demand (no buyers or good wages at the bottom).

Unless Romney is secretly a Keyensian, his stated plan will not work anymore than anyone elses budget cutting tax cutting plan.
