2012 Olympics: Harry was the party prince Sunday

(CBS News) Britain's Prince Harry presided over a high-energy, dazzling pop party Sunday night when the 2012 Olympics came to close.

Third in line to the British throne, Harry represented the royal family at the closing ceremony in the absence of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, his father and his older brother.

He was accompanied to the event by his sister-in-law, Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and the two sat side by side as the show unfolded.

Both Harry and his brother, Prince William, have been highly supportive of the Olympics, taking many events, but it is the duchess who has been the most visible royal at the Games.

The audience cheered as Prince Harry joined International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge for the ceremony's opening - the raising of the Union Jack to the strains of Britain's national anthem.
