Kobe Bryant breaks nose in All-Star game

(CBS/AP) Kobe Braynt broke Michael Jordan's career All-Star game points record Sunday night - and he also broke his nose in the process.

Bryant tied MJ's points record on two free throws in the third quarter, taking a break between them to wipe blood from his nose after a hard foul from Miami's Dwyane Wade (Watch the play below). The Lakers announced Sunday that Bryant suffered a nasal fracture during the play.

Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski later reported that Bryant also sustained a "mild concussion" on the play. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the Lakers star was suffering from headaches after the game, which lead to him missing media availability.

Announcer Reggie Miller called the contact "a pretty good foul by Dwyane Wade" but it seemed gratuitously hard for a showcase game. In any event, Bryant shook off the broken nose and went on to break Jordan's record of 262 points on a dunk with 4:57 left in the third quarter. That gave him 20 points for the game. He finished with 27 points and now has 271.

Kobe passes MJ as West wins All-Star game

Owner of a record-tying four All-Star MVP awards, Bryant began the night with 244 points in the 12 games he had played in. He passed Oscar Robertson (246 points) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (251) earlier in Sunday night's game.
