Dad drops daughter trying to catch foul ball

You're sitting at the ballgame, holding your kid. Before you know it, a foul ball is coming your way - tantalizingly within reach.

What do you do?

If you're this guy (see video above) at the Dodgers-Marlins game the other night, you drop your daughter and try to catch the ball. (He didn't.)

Maybe this doesn't constitute child abuse but it's pretty awful parenting. At least his daughter has the sense to slap him for his absentminded act.

The unidentified Dodgers fan should take some parenting notes from Tiffany Goodwin. You might recall just two weeks ago, she was able to spear a foul ball with her left hand - while cradling her toddler in her right hand. She caught the ball and protected her kid.

Baby-cradling mom catches foul ball

It's safe to say Goodwin got a heart-felt mother's day card last month. As for this guy? He might just get another scolding slap on June 19.

the part most of the comments have missed it was great that the man took the time to spend time with his kids and the wife (i assume that was his wife and kids) Not saying that what he did was smart he was just trying to be a hero and catch the ball to impress his kids.

Let's butt into someone else's business and strike a judgmental posture. This incident affects us each very profoundly, after all. Right?

I know the Dodger's have nothing to do with this father-of-the-year, but my goodness!!! Another negative story from Dodger's stadium. When will they catch a break?

This wouldn't have been an issue of he would have caught the ball.

Or this could be an even bigger issue if the ball had hit the girl in the head. We can assume he wanted to catch the ball - I suppose some people do. But, I personally would have mostly not wanted to be struck by the ball. Being an optimist, I'd like to believe he put the child down and got in front of the ball. Ultimately we can't know what he was thinking - some will never sway from their negative interpretations, I suppose I'm not going to give up my positive ones.

Looked like he stood the child on the seats and she slipped off. Admittedly, standing your child on the seat is not the best idea, but it's not like he threw her down to lunge at the ball like the article suggested. Heck, if he'd continued to hold her or put her down directly in front of him she likely would have been beaned in the nugget! She looked happy enough after the incident.

This is inexcusable. What's even worse is the morons covering the game who initially laugh at this. This man is abusive and neglectful and a horrible father. It wasn't too long ago that a woman holding her infant in one arm managed to hold onto her kid and also catch a foul ball. Men are oblivious to what is important, like their kids. The only thing important to him was catching the stupid ball. Too bad he was hit with it and knocked off his high horse.

Your rant is uncalled for. He was obviously attempting to set her down on the ground. He had his eye on the ball, which is the responsible and safe thing to do. How was he supposed to know that she was trying to stand on the wall and not put her feet on the ground which he obviously thought she would do. Men are oblivious to what is important? Have you ever heard of Casey Anthony?

uh, she had the kid in a sling

very different circumstance

and, if he kept the kid right where sh was, she would have been nailed in the chest with the ball.

please pay more attention and take your righteous indignation and go home

Men can only focus on one thing at a time. Man sees ball. Man wants ball. Man goes for ball. Child no longer exists. Can you imagine if that had been a baby?

Now, see, a woman is capable of focusing on more than one thing. She can actually access both sides of the brain. Just sayin'. : )
