"Bachelor Pad" finale: A night of surprises

"Bachelor Pad" 2012

/ ABC
(CBS News) A drama-filled "Bachelor Pad" finale episode ended with a few surprises on Monday night.

Host Chris Harrison called it the "most shocking and most disturbing 'Bachelor Pad' finale."

(Spoiler alert)

The ABC show isn't a matchmaking series, but love was definitely in the air this season, culminating with a proposal on Monday. Tony Pieper asked fellow contestant Blakeley Jones to marry him.

"You're kidding me," Jones responded. "Oh my God! Are you serious? Absolutely!"

"Bachelor Pad," though, centers on a $250,000 grand prize awarded to a winning couple, which came down to Rachel Trueheart and her partner Nick Peters, and Chris Bukowski and Sarah Newlon.

Trueheart and Peters snagged the most votes from the season's eliminated housemates. It was up to the pair to decide how the jackpot would be distributed. Were they going to share the cash, or try to keep it?

If both winners voted "share," they split the money. And if both contestants chose to keep the winnings, they would get nothing, and the $250,000 will be split among the other housemates. But if only one voted "keep," he or she would keep the entire earnings, leaving everyone else on the series empty-handed.

In this case, Peters opted to go solo, and Truehart chose to share the winnings, which meant Peters will keep the $250,000 all for himself. It was a big shocker and also the first time in the show's three-season history that one person walked away with the full prize.

Not thrilled with Peters' choice, a shocked Trueheart said, "You are disgusting," before launching a few obscenities at her partner.

Tell us: What did you think about the "Bachelor Pad" finale?

GatorChemE... I am thoroughly disgusted at how heartless the greasy baboon was while Rachel sat beside him and cried. For that, I must purge my soul as I cannot believe there are such despicable creatures Masquerading as human beings on this earth.I hate the fact that I breathe the same air and walk on the same surface as he does! So as you can tell, my passionate hatred makes it "worth the effort" just to purge my soul!

"GatorChemE"... my "unusually high investment" reflects my passion for justice. I believe in right and wrong. When two people discuss something and rely on one another's word, going back on that word makes them a disgusting creature! A frog! A slimy cockroach! And that's that!

Who's 'right' and who's 'wrong' is certainly a valid philosophical discussion. The show's producers appear happy that he's 'right' enough to get the full 250K. Should he have shared the money? Again, it's all a matter of perspective. He appears to truly believe that no one else on the show was ever on his side. He got through because the other contestants had 'bigger fish to fry'. Rachel never wanted to be with him and was open about that fact throughout. She did it to 'win' just as he did. At the end of the day, he has to live with his decision. As do we all in everything we do in our lives. Look at Chris, he knew he was done. The best card he had was to throw himself at the mercy of the other contestants and hope they voted for Sarah despite him. Unfortunately for me, the previews revealed too much and I knew from the start how this would go down. At first I was a little judgmental of Nick's choice. I would have picked 'share' myself. But after hearing him out, I can't fault the dude for what he did.

The whole show is a psychological pressure cooker. Rachel's response is not at all surprising. It'll be interesting to find out how they feel about this ending a couple months from now.

Like Nick/hate Nick/feel sorry for Rachel/whatever. Try not to get too worked up about this. Is it really worth the effort?

Someone please tell Rachel she has a great action for breach of contract. In the last few moments of tape she says that they both vowed to share the money if they won. If they really both agreed to split the winnings...and she states that they talked numerous times over the prior two weeks...there was a meeting of the minds and Rachel relied on Nick's promises. Oral agreements are enforceable if they can be fully performed within a year. The terms were clear and her vote to share the money constituted adequate consideration. She fully performed her obligations under the agreement and her damages are actual and not speculative. Depending on what state law applies, she may even be able to recover her legal fees. Even if she signed an expansive release prior to appearing on the show, it probably only encompasses the show's producers and staff and not other players. Run, Rachel, run...to see your attorney!

It's an interesting option, to be sure. Unless the terms can be presented with legal certainy...i.e. Multiple first-hand witnesses, some kind of eletronic recording, etc. ANY degree of uncertainty works against the plaintif.

It's more likely that their contracts for participation in the show includes a clause that says they can't sue the network, producers, or each other for any reason.

Too bad he won move on. Sue ha, not a chance unless the goon was recorded and it is admissable evidence.

My grip is just fine "bcana69"... If you stand up for a frog who cheats people, then you OBVIOUSLY share those "values"! That's a good place to be! That frog told her he would share and so did she. But he then cheated her. On what psycho planet is THAT fair?! Genius!

Your emotional investment seems unusually high. Perhaps a little perspective is in order. It's just a 'contrived' reality TV show after all. These guys/gals enter into this of their own free will--all emotional baggage notwithstanding. In the end, it's just a game.
doncanz replies:

It is completely fair, why do you think the producers came up with this concept?

Nick way to go man. I'm so happy for you, everyone was playing the game so as you. The rules were there, you keep the money you take it all and you deserve it. Rachael doesn't deserve the money at all coz you had to beg her to stay in the game. She wanted to leave the pad to be with Michael who doesn't even care about her lol. Just use your money wisely. I was voting for Chris and Sarah though!

What is more disgusting than dog diarrhea on a hot pavement in the middle of August? NICK PETERSON! What a sleazy slimy cockroach! The fact that this is a game and a reality show does not automatically excuse immoral behavior. Rachel was part of a partnership and she deserved half, IF NOT ALL of the prize awarded. Nick is an ugly big eyed bug who deliberately cheated her partner simply because he could! That is all! He cheated her out of the money because he knew his good natured and sweet partner would share her prize. That, is the ONLY reason he was able to walk away with all the money. It is NOT because the delusional hulk wanna-be did anything special in order to complete the game successfully. He got lucky!!! That is all!!! No one hated him in the house but no one loved him either! He is a boring, unattractive, awkward, empty headed, loathsome grease ball. He cheated someone out of money! That is NOT OK!!! The only just and fair outcome for that slimy and gross frog named NICK PETERSON would be if he spent literally every single penny of the prize money he STOLE on hospital bills. If I could have ONE wish granted by a genie, it would be that NICK PETERSON suffer a horrific injury and die a slow, painful, agonizing and fiery death!!! You don't cheat people like that! You just don't! It may be just a game; it may be just a show; but the person in that partnership is a HUMAN BEING who was thoroughly cheated! TWICE!!! She thought she found love; then she was dumped like garbage. She won a prize; then she was cheated. NICK PETERSON is lower than toilet scum. NICK PETERSON is lower than rat feces. NICK PETERSON is a pathetic little dog who probably never had daddy's love and admiration so he bulked up praying it would result in daddy's respect. His ugly face probably repelled women all his life and he was probably a virgin up to last year until a brain dead gas bag decided to cast him on a stupid reality show. He was a non factor on that show (based on what I've read) and he was certainly a non factor in this show. Airheads fell for his bull and he escaped elimination time after time. THE ONLY REASON he lasted long was because there were men in that group who were, for some reason, less liked. He did NOTHING to "deserve" the prize. NOTHING!!!! He got lucky because other men were more hated. THAT IS ALL!!! Everyone voted for that couple because everyone loves the other half of that partnership. Nick is a nobody; a nothing; a fart in the wind. NICK PETERSON is an unattractive, immoral, stupid, awkward, pathetic, sleazy, slimy and a disgusting rat! NICK PETERSON is a waste of space and oxygen. NICK PETERSON is the perfect example of unbridled greed. Cheating a partner out of money when she's already been through so much pain and heartache makes him the perfect candidate for the worst ailment, pain and suffering to ever inflict a soul... IF he even has a soul!!!!! (Doubt it!) And to the psychotic audience members who cheered him on for his dirty deed...I know it must be difficult to watch a beautiful young girl FORTY years your junior chase love, make friends, win prizes and be happy, but your loud cheering at the thought of her being cheated only highlighted your deep seeded jealousy and utter pettiness. I realize it must be tough to be old and unattractive but don't take it out on Rachel! She didn't make you ugly! She didn't make you old and pathetic. Take it up with God and Mother Nature! Psychopaths!!! What type of a lunatic cheers on a baboon for cheating her partner? Wow! People can truly sink to lows I never knew was possible! "Yay! That pretty girl lost the man she loved and she lost the prize she won! Yay! My boring life feels a little less sad now because the young pretty girl isn't happy either. So there world! Suffer as I do! Yay! Cry pretty girl; cry like I do every night. I couldn't make anything of myself so now I wish for everyone to fail so that my failures don't seem so huge! Yay! Cry! Cry pretty girl! Yay!" Freakin psychos!

Hey...how about you get a grip!! Rachel didn't want him as a partner...they were stuck together and he continued to play the game. In addition, she had the nerve to believe 'she deserved it more'...she lives in the hamptons..on what planet does that make sense. Nick WON and the WINNER takes all...that's life!! Participation trophies are the reason this next generation is a bunch of wimps....

WOW! You have way too much time on your hands to write such a long comment on Bachelor Pad. Honestly do you do anything else? Nick played the game and Rachel is an idiot. All she did was hide behind Michael the whole time. Then cried non stop and is still crying. She didn't lose the man she loved they barely knew each other. Michael should have gotten off his A-s and made her feel better than sit on the couch. He should have owned the fact that Rachel was so pathetic because of him. Erica, Chris and Sarah are my Fav's and of course lush bag ED

Nick was awesome. Everybody on that show played to win $250,000 - not $125,000. Nick kept his eye on the prize. Everyone else was either watching out for their ignorance, insecurity(gals) or over-confidence (guys and Erica rose).

I thought it was great. Nobody thought Nick would win. All those bimbos and alpha males under estimated him. Honestly I didn't think he would win either. This is a game and you play to win. After this they don't have to see each other. I think Chris and Nick did what they had to in order to win. Kudoos to Nick!!!. and Rachel what an idiot, did you really think you can find love on a show like that. I was cheering for Chris and Sarah because like Nick they played the game right only Nick was a bit more sneaky. Had a great laugh when it was over.
