(CBS News) "Ghostbusters 3" is going ahead without Bill Murray's Dr. Peter Venkman.

In an interview with Metro, Dan Aykroyd confirmed that Murray will not be in the film.

"No, I can tell you he won't be involved," Aykroyd told the paper. "It's sad but we're passing it on to a new generation."

"My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn't seem to be coming and we have to move on. It's time to make the third one."

The film, which he says will be in production next year, will also have a new writer.

Tell us: Do you think "Ghostbusters 3" will still be good without the original cast?

To even have half a chance, they need to convince Murray to join. It's definitely not going to be what it should without him.

They should can the entire Ghosbusters 3 idea and just film an entire new movie with new cast that the current generation of young movie goers can relate to. Murray made a wise decision in not wanting to be part of a sequel with the original cast members. Having the original cast do a cameo in a new version would make much more sense.

Are ANY sequels as good as the first, especially when they change cast members? Not in my opinion.

Aliens, Terminator 2, God Father 2, Dark Knight, Evil Dead 2, Xmen2, Just to name a few that are better sequels than originals. ;)

Agreed. And there are so many precursers that prove this to be true.
