Ariz. sheriff shocked by George Lopez's profane comments against him

(CBS/AP) Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio says he's shocked by comedian George Lopez's profanity-laced tirade against him.

Lopez made the comments about the top police officer in Maricopa County during the debut of his solo stand-up special, "George: It's Not Me, It's You," which aired Saturday on HBO.

Arpaio says he had been watching the show but changed the channel before Lopez directed curse words at him. The sheriff, known for his tough stance on illegal immigration, says he was shocked that the comments weren't part of a joke.

Ina Treciokas, a publicist for Lopez, says the comedian would have no further comment.

The sheriff is the target of several lawsuits, including one going to trial Thursday that accuses his department of racially profiling Latinos.

I love watching George Lopez's comedy routines but have never had any doubt in my mind that he is a racist. I wonder why nobody ever asks what the Latino deputies that work for him, make busts of illegal aliens and enforce all the other laws think of these accusations.

Sheriff Joe is being unfairly treated, especially by the USAG.

just viewed the snippet of the lopez routine. found it on the LA Times website. he took shots at romney too. the audience was laughing and applauding. it kind of like those dvds of richard pryor when he would go off in his routines and nearly every other word was mf. it was just a comedy routine and nothing shocking to the ear, nothing unusual. it was a comedy routine. don't see where romney or arpaio should get upset about it. if you see the routine, it's kind of funny ala richard pryor.

when i was growing up comedians like red skelton, jonathan winters ect could make you laugh without profanity. has any one checked to see if george lopez is a legal American? Maybe he has a lot of relatives who are illegal. every one else that comes to america does it legal how come the hispanic don't have to

have no idea what lopez said as this article does not report exactly what was said. there are curse words and then there are curse words. some are widely accepted and no longer viewed as cursing.

The Sheriff is one of the symptoms of what is so very wrong in right-wing AZ. He's even a bigger buffoon than Jan Brewer. Call it like it is Latinos, and vote accordingly this November.

Sheriff Joe is doing the job the Feds are derelict in their duties in doing. Cleaning out the illegal invaders. He should be cloned and voted in everywhere there is an illegal invader problem. I don't live in Maricops County but if I did he would get my vote every time he comes up for re-election.
