(CBS News) Steven Tyler isn't the only star leaving "American Idol."

Lopez shared the news on "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest's radio show.

"I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do," she told Seacrest. (Listen to the audio here.)

Her representative, Mark Young, also confirmed her exit, according to the Associated Press.

Lopez's announcement comes a day after Tyler revealed he would not be returning to the show.

The singer/actress has been hinting that she would be leaving "Idol." During an appearance on the "Today" show Thursday, she said, "I've enjoyed it so much. But I am thinking that maybe it's time for me to go and do other things that I really love to do."

they should get a real musical icon ... who really knows someone with talent ... and can provide useful input to evolve their career.

someone like david foster ... or barry gibb would be good examples.

In which case the show would die.

The show isn't about musical creativity. It's about image... in ways a very obscene image, but that's typical for FOX... ironic, as Bill O'Reilly once hosted a special on the media's influence on children circa 2001 or so, yet he wouldn't say a single syllable about FOX... the lack of such valid references would in turn become spin, and FOX Broadcasting pats itself on the back for "pushing the envelope" all the time... but I digress...

Back when I bothered to watch American Idol, everyone always sounded the same - like a banshee in heat. Only a certain Nadia had actual talent, but didn't have the shock jock antics that made others win.

Yes, it was a glitzy show. Yes, Simon was a elephant's hind quarters. But those didn't appeal...

Hey, this show is big and makes money for the people on it and does the country good. How dare you complain about success!!!!!

Oh, wait, based on what I am referring or reading into from your response, I dare say some criticisms and complaints are authorized... the show was overglorified trash, hawked by an overglorified entity one who wouldn't get away with being that rude toward others in real life.

Yes, I've watched the show. He likes to defend his actions as being criticism. But there is a difference between criticism and rabid personal attacks. The man frequently does go too far.

It's even sadder when sci-fi from the 1970s and 1980s predicted "reality television" where people did crude things to one another as means of entertainment... :(

I haven't watched this show regularly in a couple of years ... it just feels so 'last decade'.

The winner's always some forgettable mid-western, bland guy with a guitar, who never goes anywhere with his career after the show.

And the judges don't add anything.

How it's still #1 in the ratings is beyond me ... sometimes I'll tune in when I'm bored and there's nothing else on, and it'll feel like I've stepped into a time warp and it's 10 years ago. They really need to shake things up and try something new - there's so much competition out there now - X Factor, The Voice, Duets, AGT, etc, etc ...

Excuse me????? She's a two legged sperm bank; NO class or morals and zero respect for herself. In other words, a pig. Perfect example of "ya can take the ho outta the hood but ya can't take the hood outta the ho". Nasty.

One attempt is Charlie Sheen. Miss Piggy would be a good candidate to replace J-Ho.

No, I won't miss Jennifer - or Steven - they don't really judge - just made sweet comments with out helpful advice; Jennifer did give more advice than Steven - all he could say was "beautiful, man," but Jennifer's favorites were easy to determine, and I am sure the other contestants felt that favoritism. Her "goosy" comments drove me crazy!

"Jennifer did give more advice than Steven..."

She gave more advice than Steven and Randy, because she didn't shut up long enough for them to give any. She was always butting in when it was their turn to talk.

That would be a big fat NO.

I will miss Steven. He's cute and funny.

And I like Randy, but he needs to get a new vocabulary. I'm tired of the "dawg" and stuff.

She's a skank. : )

Yeah, I guess it will be all new judges. They better be careful who they pick or it could very well be the end. They are talking about Adam Lambert being one, but I don't think he has enough experience in the music business yet.
