Slash honored with star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

(CBS News) Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash received a star on the Walk of Fame Tuesday.

Actor Charlie Sheen was on hand to honor the musician, and in true Sheen fashion, he gave a controversial speech.

"It's quite fitting that Slash is getting a star on the very street Axl Rose will one day be sleeping on," Sheen said, joking about GNR lead singer Axl Rose, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to Sheen, music producer Robert Evans and radio host Jim Ladd were in attendance.

The rocker spoke about his start in nightclubs in Los Angeles on the Sunset Strip.

"I've been a part of the Hollywood fabric for a long time and to actually be appreciated by the city of Hollywood is a huge honor. And so I want to thank everybody for this; it's unbelievable," said Slash, according to Reuters.

After the unveiling he gave an acoustic performance with Myles Kennedy that was accompanied by a Q&A session. The duo performed songs from Slash's self-titled solo album and ended with the GNR classic "Sweet Child O' Mine."
