Usher's stepson: Family seeks prayers after Jet Ski accident
(CBS News) The family of Usher's stepson has released a statement asking for prayers for the 11-year-old boy, who was struck by a Jet Ski on Friday.
"We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time," his family said in a statement to CNN on Tuesday. "We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kile up, as it's the best way we can all support him now."
Kile Glover, the son of the singer's ex wife, Tameka Foster, remained in critical condition Tuesday at an Atlanta hospital, according to CNN. (Many reports have previously spelled the boy's name "Kyle," but the family's statement refers to him as "Kile.")
Glover and a 15-year-old girl were riding in an inner tube being pulled by a pontoon boat on Georgia's Lake Lanier when they were run over by a man on a personal watercraft, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Both were flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
The boy suffered a head injury and was unresponsive when he was pulled from the lake following the crash, the DNR told the Journal-Constitution. The girl reportedly suffered cuts to her head and a broken arm and is in stable condition, according to CBS Atlanta affiliate WGCL-TV.
Two Department of Natural Resources rangers witnessed the accident and saved the girl, according to the affiliate's report. The boy was reportedly rescued by a pair of Good Samaritans.
The man driving the Jet Ski was 38-year-old Jeffrey Hubbard, a family friend, WGCL-TV reports. Officers told the affiliate alcohol was not involved in the incident. Charges have not been filed, they added, but the crash is still under investigation.
TMZ reported Sunday that doctors have declared Glover brain dead following the accident. According to the website, the boy has not experienced any brain activity since he was admitted to the hospital.
The family has held vigil at the hospital since Friday, CNN reports. Usher visited Glover early Saturday morning but has not returned, a source close to the family told the outlet.
Usher, whose real name is Usher Raymond IV, and Foster divorced in 2009 after two years of marriage, and have been battling over custody of their two sons, Usher V, 4, and Naviyd, 3.
