Prince Charles visits Prince William at RAF base

(CBS News) Prince William had a special visitor stop by the Royal Air Force base where he works - his father, Prince Charles.

Charles visited his son at RAF Valley in Anglesey on Monday, the first day of his annual trip to Wales with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

William, 30, known as Flight Lieutenant Wales in the military, is based at RAF Valley as a search-and-rescue pilot. According to British reports, he was on shift when a call for help came in just before his father's arrival.

According to the Mirror, the prince's commanding officer took his place on the rescue operation so he could remain on site for the royal visit. (The BBC reports that a man fell ill in the hills near Barmouth, Wales).

During the visit, the Duke of Cambridge gave his father a tour of the base, showing him around a Sea King helicopter and visiting the base's operations room.

Last month, it was announced that William had qualified as an operational captain for search-and-rescue missions, after spending two years studying and training for the role. He is now able to command search-and-rescue missions in RAF Sea King helicopters, where he was previously authorized only to co-pilot the aircraft.
