"Katy Perry: Part of Me" reviews are in
(CBS News) Katy Perry's documentary film "Katy Perry: Part of Me" hits theaters today.
The 3-D film follows the singer's first-ever world tour, which coincided with the demise of her marriage to comedian Russell Brand, and has received fairly positive reviews.
While the film allows viewers to get a backstage pass to her concerts, much of the reason it has been gaining buzz is because it also gives an inside look at what happened between the pop star and Brand.
"Katy Perry: Part of Me" scored a 76 percent rating on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
Here's what a few critics had to say:
Stephanie Merry, The Washington Post: "As a piece of pro-Perry propaganda, the entertaining and disarmingly poignant movie from directors and reality television vets Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz is a startling success. Although there are moments when the filmmakers' fingerprints are nearly visible on the manipulated putty of an audience, the scenes aren't enough to break the fruit-flavored spell."
Mark Shanahan, Boston Globe: "Just like it says, "Part of Me" is one aspect of Perry, but her fans may leave the movie wanting more."
Rafer Guzman, Newsday: "I'm willing to believe Perry is everything "Part of Me" says she is: kind, smart, talented, hardworking, deserving of success. I just wish the movie trusted me to decide for myself."
A.O. Scott, The New York Times : " 'Part of Me' will never be mistaken for 'The Red Shoes' (though Ms. Perry has some of those, as well as every other color), but her negotiation of the painfully competing demands of stardom and marriage is undeniably poignant."
David Hiltbrand, Philadelphia Inquirer: "What is worth seeing -- and shelling out the 3-D premium for -- is Perry's eye-popping showmanship."
