Katie Holmes: "I'm alright, thank you"

(CBS News) Katie Holmes isn't going to let her divorce from Tom Cruise get in the way of her Fourth of July plans.

The 33-year-old actress and her daughter Suri, 6, were photographed shopping in New York on Wednesday.

The New York Daily News captured Holmes smiling as she picked up groceries at Whole Foods. She told the paper, "I'm alright. Thank you."

Holmes picked up ground beef, hamburger rolls, strawberries and bananas at the store. The day before Holmes and Suri were spotted laughing as they stopped inside an ice cream shop in Manhattan, reports People.

That same day, Cruise was seen boarding a California-bound plane from Iceland - on his 50th birthday. He was there to film scenes for his new movie, "Oblivion."

Holmes filed for divorce on June 28 and is reportedly seeking sole custody of Suri. Her lawyer said Holmes' "primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest." Cruise's rep, meanwhile, said the actor was "deeply saddened" by his Holmes' divorce filing.

Holmes and Suri recently moved into a new, 3-bedroom apartment in New York. The apartment building, located in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, is seen below.

Remember how quiet Nicole was after her separation and divorce from the creep? She was obviously afraid of him and what he and his crazy followers could do to her. About the only thing that Nicole ever made reference to Tom and the marriage was how controlling he was.....ie: she couldn't even wear heels because it made her even taller than him. Hopefully this episode in his life will doom his career, once and for all. He is repulsive!

Katie Holmes isn't a very smart girl. If she had any brains at all, she would have done her research on Scientology before she married him.

The sole custody thing gets me wondering . . usually that happens if there is abuse by a parent and/or the child is not the child of both parents, which supports my theory that Suri is not Tom Cruise's biological daughter! I have thought from the beginning of their relationship that the baby was not his! She went with Chris Klein for 5 yrs until like February or March of 2005. Weeks later, she starts dating Tom, I believe it was April 2005. In mid June, Tom proposed to her atop the Eiffel Tower. There is one engagement pic I have seen where she is wearing a form fitting white dress and you can tell (I have had 4 kids and know a pregger belly when I see one) she is noticeably pregnant, which isn't usually till a woman is about 3 or 4 months along. Not enough time had gone by since they knew each other for her to be pregnant by Tom Cruise! I believe Suri is Chris Klein's child and she was a dead ringer for him when she was born! I suspect Katie was tired of their long engagement, got pregnant to get Klein to marry her but that didn't work. I also believe Cruise, who never had biological children with either of his former wives, is either sterile or gay, and agreed to raise Suri as his to ward off gay rumors! I further believe the child was born much sooner than April 2006 and that Katie, not very successfully, faked the last few months of her supposed pregnancy. I believe all that was done to further belief that it was Cruise's kid and not Klein's! And now I believe that is the reason she is seeking sole custody! I rest my case!

What you say could be true, or it could be just a matter of her not wanting Tom to have shared custody. If Tom has shared custody, then Suri will live with him half the time. The more she lives with him, the more she is exposed to the Scientology crap. Also, with Tom being a control freak, the less she's around him, the better.

Of course if Suri is Tom's child, I doubt having sole custody will matter. He and his cult will find a way to separate mother and daughter. I've read where a child will be separated from the parent and will be put somewhere out of reach.
