Roberts, 51, said on Tuesday, "I slept like a baby last night for the first night since my diagnosis . . . My family and I are overwhelmed and comforted by the response from everyone. Thank you just doesn't begin to express our gratitude."

Roberts received a flurry of messages on Twitter. Here's a sampling:

Roberts also said she had a conversation Monday night with Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. "It really has been very comforting," she added about the support.

The morning show host has already started chemotherapy pre-treatment, which will ready her for a bone marrow transplant, probably this fall. Her sister will be the donor. During that period, she will have to take some time off from work.

Dear Robin,
I just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. When I heard your news I cried right along with all of you. You are a very special person and you have touched the hearts and lives of so many people. I have always admired your grace and warm and caring personality. Stay strong Robin! You are a wonderful role model for all women and young girls. I am from the Chicago area and I always enjoy it when the morning group gets to talk to you about what's coming up on Good Morning America. My prayers will continue for you and your sister as you continue this journey.
