(CBS News) Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are engaged to be married, after dating for three years.

The former "Hannah Montana" star, 19, and "The Hunger Games" actor, 22, met when they co-starred in the film "The Last Song" in 2009.

Their reps confirmed the news to People on Wednesday.

"I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam," Cyrus told the magazine.

Hemsworth reportedly proposed with a 3.5-carat diamond ring from jeweler Neil Lane on May 31.

In the days since the engagement, Cyrus has been sending out happy messages on her Twitter account:

"Heaven is a place on earth," she wrote on June 1.

On Wednesday, she tweeted, "I love you more today than yesterday but I love you less today than I will tomorrow...." and "life is beautiful."
