(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Sheryl Crow has revealed that she has a benign brain tumor, but a rep for the singer says it's nothing to be alarmed about.

The 50-year-old told an audience about her condition at a recent concert, but her representative, Christine Wolff, said it's very common.

Wolff said Crow is doing great and is healthy and happy. The tumor is a meningioma, and it's typically benign and develops from the protective linings of the brain and spinal cord.

"I worried about my memory so much that I went and got an MRI. And I found out I have a brain tumor," Crow told the Las Vegas Review Journal. "And I was, like, 'See? I knew there was something wrong.'"

"I haven't really talked about it," she added. "In November, I found out I have a brain tumor. But it's benign, so I don't have to worry about it. But it gives me a fit."

Crow battled breast cancer several years back. She's currently on a nationwide tour.

Hi, I found this user's comment on CBSNews.com and thought you might be interested in reading it. You obviously don't get the statement anybody who has had a brain tumor will say it is the most stupidest thing to say benign and harmless. Especially the number of children that have died from these harmless tumors. Talk to my son's oncologist and she will tell you they hate to classify them, as such because they always can grow back. My son is about to have his 12th brain surgery and is in the PICU as we speak, he has had 10 of these surgeries since June 2011 so I want to know how the hell you can say that! NO SUCH THING! Ask real people who are going through it and a real doctor! SO YOU ARE WRONG and off base to think a brain tumor is not harmless! Why is that the American Cancer Society recognizes brain tumors and provides services to brain tumors regardless of being benign and malignant! I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT I AM A MOTHER OF A SON WHO IS IN THE HOSPITAL ONCE AGAIN WHO HAS NOT GONE MORE THAN TWO MONTHS WITHOUT A SURGERY FOR A BENIGN HARMLESS TUMOR! If you want proof and debate this further contact me and I will give it to you! marielle0303@aol.com Get this idiot off this blog!

Celebrities are idiots! Wait until she has to go through treatments and I will be damned if she thinks she will be a celebrity spokesman for brain tumors, like Jenny Mcartney and her being a spokesman for autism. It is very stupid to listen to these idiots. If it is so harmless MS, CROW *** is my son in the ICU about to have his 12th brain surgery! NO SUCH THING AS A BENIGN BRAIN TUMOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN THROUGH IT WILL UNDERSTAND THIS STATEMENT!

KansasCity-2012 says:
The tumor that was described is harmless. They often appear unnoticed and disappear without a trace. These and other types of tumors have been found in many corpses, but never attributed as the cause of death. Most tumors of these type begin as a lesion from normal wear and tear of active living. It is believed that the healthier people in the population have most of them and condition their bodies to recover from those and similar types. Those living without exercise get fewer, but also seem to have a lower resistance or ability to recover from them. Most benign tumors are miniscule and rarely detectable, and nearly everyone has a dozen at any time.

There is more to this story than what is being reported. This woman is way too skinny and she needs to eat. She reminds me of that other skinny sickly thing, Guiliana Rancic. Cancer is Cancer, don't candy coat it. These women are ill and need medical attention. Ms. Crow is not healthy.

Just because it's "benign", that does not mean it can't grow in size and be a problem. It won't grow fast, and won't "invade" surrounding tissue, but it can get bigger and push against things. My daughter's friend has one and she has to go in and have it cut back every so often.

No such thing as a "benign" brain tumor.

I guess I just prefer to live in reality and not LA LA LAND.

You need to get a grip on that reality.

At least it can be CONTROLLED in most cases.
