Amy Winehouse's family to sell singer's London home
(CBS/AP) LONDON - The London home where Amy Winehouse lived - and died - has been put up for sale by the late singer's family for 2.7 million pounds ($4.2 million).
The three-bedroom property in the Camden neighborhood of northwest London had become a shrine of sorts for mourning fans who left flowers and tributes following Winehouse's death last July from alcohol poisoning.
A spokesman for the Winehouse family told Britain's The Sun: "The Winehouses have decided to put the house on the market, with great regret. Amy loved that house but none of the family felt it appropriate that they should live in it. It was not practical to keep it empty while paying for its upkeep. It is a wonderful place and will be a happy family home for someone."
The 2,500-square-foot home features three bedrooms - including an "impressive master suite with vaulted ceiling" - three living rooms and private front and rear gardens overlooking the tony Camden Square, according to online listing agent Housenetwork.co.uk.
The property has changed hands only once in more than 40 years and had undergone major structural and cosmetic refurbishment, retaining a number of original features with modern upgrades including new electrical and heating systems, an integrated sound system and CCTV, the listing added.
Graham Lock, spokesman for Housenetwork.co.uk, confirmed that the listing has generated "a lot of interest" but would not go into detail about how many inquiries had come in, given that the Winehouse family had asked for discretion.
"There's a lot of fans getting in touch about it so we're trying to weed out the genuine interest from people who are just being nosy," he told the Associated Press.
