(CBS News) It looks like Cesar Millan will now have some doggie trainer competition.

Starting Wednesday, May 30, there will be a new canine expert on the block. The New York City block, that is.

That's when CBS will begin airing "Dogs in the City," starring Manhattan-based "dog guru" Justin Silver, described as a master at resolving issues between dogs and their owners. Silver says many times the issues lie with the owners.

Throughout the series, Silver meets with New Yorkers who have a range of canine issues -- from a couple looking to move in together with a dog to a newly divorced couple whose dog is having a rough time adjusting to joint custody. He even calls in his own dogs, pit bulls Chiquita and Pacino, to help out by leading by example.

"Dogs in the City" airs Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

I love the show. I think because of the show's time restrictions that limits (edits out) all the points that are made to improve the dog/owners situation. If the problem is resolved, do we really need to see that Justin has a Degree from Harvard in Dog Talk? Please! Just enjoy a good show! I would love to have Justin come talk to my "rescue poodle" any time! It is a great feel good show that the whole family can watch. And we don't have many of those on TV. Thank you CBS.

There are many well known dog trainers and behaviorists that have outstanding reputations whom are well respected within the industry, many of whom have written books, and yet for sensationalism on TV, CBS selects 'the handsome guy with the gift of gab who is good in front of the camera, but is actually an actor/comedian/dog walker' (i know him personally). It's frustrating.

In my professional opinion as a dog trainer, he was incorrect on the first episode saying the English Bulldog had "severe separation anxiety". The dog had a classic case of indulgence by owner, hence was demanding attention.

To use dogs and dog training in a way that provides gimmicks for TV is irresponsible. Incorrect information has the potential to harm dogs. Period.

I am not only disappointed by this show but appalled that CBS would call Justin Silver a BEHAVIORIST. He has no education regarding dogs, is not an APDT trainer, and certainly doesn't have a masters in canine behavior. Out of so many excellent, well qualified AND entertaining trainers in the city... WHY HIM?

This is a good article that debunks the "training" he is doing: http://www.laurensleash.com/the-dog-blog/

Sorry but Dogs in the City is not very good. No concentration on the dogs. You can tell a lot by observing a dog but the editors give you no more than three to five seconds to see what they are about. There is too much drama with Justin and the owners and too many quick editing cuts. Cesar Milan and Victoria Stilwell offer superior shows and the seem to take their time. I turned to the hockey playoffs seventeen minutes into this show. Very disappointed.

I didn't think it was that bad, although you may be right. I think I'll ask Milan my question about dogs and thunder and 4th of July noises. Thanks.

I'd like to know why he was teaching "Beefy" to walk on the right when I was thought (and AKC show handlers) keep the dogs on the left. I'm glad he's helping these people with their problems but he should be following standard practices.

I don't think Cesar Millan has to worry. I'm watching the show and see that the dog named Charlotte has her training collar on wrong. If he is a professionsal trainer, WHY is her collar on wrong? Maybe the dog would respond better if the training collar was used correctly. Just a thought. I'm so sick of these reality shows.

good point Julie. I'd like to know why he was teaching "Beefy" to walk on the right when I was thought (and AKC show handlers) keep the dogs on the left. I'm glad he's helping these people with their problems but he should be following standard practices.
