Robin Thicke, Kelly Clarkson make "Duets" debut

(CBS News) ABC's new reality competition show "Duets,"  in which mentors  Robin Thicke, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Nettles and John Legend  actually sing with the contestants, premiered Thursday night.

Each music star had to sort through thousands of audition tapes and travel across America to find two people they wanted on their duet teams.

In future  shows, mentors will score one another's  duet performances and scores will be revealed to show where everyone is ranked. The season winner receives a recording contract with Hollywood Records.

After seeing the celebs search, we finally get to meet the season's eight contestants.

J Rome and John Glosson sang with Sugarland's Nettles; Johnny Gray and Bridget Carrington sang with Legend; Alexis Foster and Olivia Chisholm teamed up with Thicke; and Jordan Meredith and Jason Farol were paired with Clarkson.

Each duo sang one of their mentor's hit songs Thursday, but as the series continues, the contestants will perform a wide range of tunes.

At the end of the night,  Nettles' duet with J Rome - the two sang "Tonight" - placed him on top. Thicke said J Rome was "handsome with an amazing voice" and Legend told him, "you really look and sound like a star." Meanwhile, both of Clarkson's singers were placed in the bottom two.

This show is a joke. Superstars? Not a chance. Most of the amateurs were not that good and the "stars" are horrible judges.

There will claelry be something else being watched at our house.

i just wished people would stop using the term "superstar" so often. people who have one hit now have movie and ad deals . Robin Thicke?. Please make no mistake I liked the other hosts on the show . Could anyone say that some of these so-called superstars stand up next to real greats like ELvis, The Beatles,Roy Ordison and so on they are stars but not superstars rje
