Which town is best-read? Alexandria, Va.

(CBS/AP) There are a lot of readers in Alexandria, Va.

The historic suburb outside of Washington, D.C. tops Amazon.com's list of best-read cities over the past year, based on per capita sales of books, newspapers and magazines.

Romance novels are especially popular in Alexandria, according to the online retailer, which released the list Tuesday.

Alexandria was immediately followed by several college towns: Cambridge, Mass.; Berkeley, Calif.; Ann Arbor, Mich.; and Boulder, Colo. Municipalities on the list all have populations of more than 100,000.

Rounding out the top 10 were Miami, Fla.; Arlington, Va.; Gainesville, Fla.; Washington, D.C.; and Salt Lake City.

Im extremely well read and will NOT vote for Obama this time. Many reasons but one that illustrates my opinion. In 2008 and later in 2009 Obama promised to cut the national Federal deficit in half and to bring down the massive total federal debt. He lied. He has continued massive Federal deficit spending adding nearly 6 trillion dollars to the debt, more than any other president in history. He did this without the sanctions, approval or restrictions of a Federal budget despite two years of a super majority. The buck stops with Obama. His administration is out of control, reckless, lawless and needs to be shown the door in November.

If you count Romance novels, then you're including a lot of 120-page dribble, porn for females. These Romance novels should not be included since they cannot be considered as making anyone "well read." Heck, the women that read this empty garbage where I worked read nothing else except maybe those other empty-headed pages of fluff, women's magazines. And their peanut thinking reflected their "reading."

Little doubt, towns in these states (and in Tennessee) are at the very bottom, except maybe Oxford, Mississipi.

Yeah, you must be reading a lot of fantasy, rather than living in the real world.

And all of these towns overwhelmingly vote Democrat (the exception being Salt Lake City).

Be smart, be forward-thinking: Vote Democrat this November.

Obama, 2012!!!!!!!! (eight exclamation points, eight years in office)

Oops, I was wrong. Salt Lake City votes Democrat, too: 60% for Barack Obama in 2008.

Education is a fine thing, indeed.

Obama, 2012!!!!!!!!

Would one really count "romance novels" when tallying a best-read town? I think not. Why not add comic books too.

gjc - wondered about tht myself. I would call that pulp fiction at best. But considering it's Alexandria, a suburb of Washington, D.C., not too surprising. Your suggestion about comic books is a good one too - they could be written ABOUT life in Washington and the burbs.
