Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are engaged

It's official - after seven years as a couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are engaged.

Pitt's manager confirmed the news to The Associated Press in an email Friday.

Cynthia Pett-Dante said that there isn't a wedding date "at this time." She also said that the engagement "is a promise for the future."

Earlier Friday, jeweler Robert Procop told the Hollywood Reporter he designed an engagement ring for the Oscar-winning actress.

"I can confirm that, yes, Robert Procop did indeed design an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie, designed in collaboration with Brad Pitt," a rep for Procop said.

"Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized over a yearlong collaboration. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so I was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suite Angelina's hand," the statement continued. "Brad was always heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design evolution. The side diamonds are specially cut to encircle her finger. Each diamond is of the highest gem quality."

Jolie was photographed with a ring on her engagement finger Wednesday night while attending a private viewing at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Chinese Galleries, THR notes.

The actress collaborated with Procop last year on her "Style of Jolie" jewelry line, which benefited charity.

Pitt, 48, and Jolie, 36, have been together since 2005, and have three adopted children and three biological children. Pett-Dante also said that "their kids are very happy."

Earlier this year, Pitt told CBS News' "Sunday Morning" that the couple has been "getting a lot of pressure from the kids" to get married.

"It means something to them," he said during the interview, adding, "We will [wed] someday, we will. 'That's a great idea! Get mommy a ring!' Okay, I will, I will."

And we all know how seriously Brad and Angelina regard marriage vows..............laughing my rear end off. Just wait until they do a movie with someone they are attracted to. "Oh OOOOPS honey, I fell in love and went to bed with my co-star." Of course, if they could just fall in love with the same woman....it might work. :D

As much as I do not think they are brilliant, both Brad and Angelina have been advocates for research and helping out. She does alot of charity work, and Brad was part of the New Orleons project to re build homes. Plus they are good actors, in different movies. I hope it works for them

Everybody gets tired of the "liberal media", so now it's time for some rightwingers to get the narcissists' spotlight. And, as far as rightwingers go, she's halfway decent, but there are others that I much prefer (Kelsey Grammar, etc...), but either way I still am issue-based first and foremost. I don't need to be a sycophant for some celebrity on every issue they stand for, and it'd be fascism to have to do so...

These two are not a good example of how to build a family IMO. Engaged? Wow. Why not just get married, quietly, since they've adopted and given birth to a whole lot of children? Engaged is an astoundingly ridiculous idea at this late stage. They've got their own fantasy going on, apparently.

Angelina and Brad, Thank you for pleasant and surprising news that makes a heart feel good for the both of you. You have continued to save the world with you lives. At a time when people are just beginning to get back on their feet and even thought mortgages are very difficult to pay because work dose not pay what it use to and gas is so expensive, hearing your good news takes our mind off our troubles and gives us a happy feeling that you two belong together.

Why all the fuss? They've been together 7 years - they should just go to the justice of the peace and get it over with. Why make it a public spectacle? It's not like they need the press and it certainly doesn't add to the sentiment to the day. These two are consumed with the need to be universally adored so all this marriage hype is just another example of their narcissism. I hope they hurry up and get it done, otherwise the media will serve this garbage to us every day.

Last note to Brad and Angie: getting married just because your kids want you to isn't exactly the brightest idea in the world....
