According to Politico, the group ran into the first lady at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday, where she extended the invitation.
A spokesperson for the band told the site that One Direction had to decline the invite because of "scheduling" and "prior commitments." The band's rep also added that the boys "would love" to stop by during their U.S. tour, which starts May 24 in Virginia.

- This is a non-story that you're trying to make into a story. They received an off-the-cuff invitation from Mrs. Obama at the Slime Awards Show. Are they supposed to drop everything and run to the White House? It's not like QE2 invited them to Buckingham Palace.

- These kids better take advantage of offers like Mrs. Obama's now because no one will remember who they are 18 months from now. Quick, name all of the members of New Kids On The Block. Uh huh.
