"The Hunger Games" heroine Katniss Everdeen to become a Barbie doll

(CBS News) Katniss Everdeen is getting the Barbie treatment.

Mattel announced Friday that it is making a doll of "The Hunger Games" heroine for its Barbie Collector line.

The doll, meant for adult collectors, will go on sale later this year on BarbieCollector.com and at other retail outlets.

Katniss is the 16-year-old protagonist of Suzanne Collins' bestselling post-apocalyptic novel. A film based on the book was released Friday, with Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence in the starring role.

She joins other dolls in the Barbie Collector line, including Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and "Twilight" characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan.
