Chelsea Handler opens up about getting an abortion

(CBS) Chelsea Handler got serious during a visit to "The Rosie Show" this week. The comedienne told Rosie O'Donnell that she got pregnant when she was 16.

"I was so delusional," Handler, 36, said. "I was like, 'I'm ready for a baby.'"

But her parents disagreed, and Handler ended up getting an abortion.

"I was trying to argue with them and they were like, 'You don't understand,'" Handler explained to O'Donnell during the show on OWN TV. "'You're throwing your entire life away. You're not having a child right now. This is not what our family's about. You know, you're supposed to create a life for yourself, and we want you to enjoy your life and not be raising a child. And we're certainly not going to raise it for you.'"

"I wouldn't be a good mother," she said, adding, "I have no regret at all."

OMG - did her parents really say that she would be "throwing away her entire life"?

Did THEY feel that way about her and those were their words of wisdom?

I would hope that they actually worded in much differently than that!

by KPeters_from_UK February 11, 2012 9:10 AM EST: Back in the late 80's I have known and seen a couple of middle class high school girls throwing away their entire lives due to unwanted pregnancies. One ended in a quick divorce after the child was two and mom ended up on welfare. Second one lived with her parents until the child was 6. The latter mom never got to go to the Parson's School of Design in NYC like she wanted and instead worked as a beautician assistant for quite a while sweeping up hair from the floor. And the dads ...they are doing much better than the girls they knocked up. But heck, that's just two examples.

And SSPOR.... it's likely that her parents had her only after they were able to support her through childhood and into a productive adulthood. There is a diff, ya know..... With rare exception, teens make poor parents, and ruin their lives trying....
