It was right before the 2009 ceremony that the R&B singer was accused of assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna. Both stars backed out their performances that year, and Brown is serving five years probation after admitting to the assault.

Brown has been asked back to the Grammys this year, returning to "Music's Biggest Night" as a performer. He's slated to take the stage with deadmau5, Foo Fighters, David Guetta and Lil Wayne for a performance highlighting dance and electronica music.
Brown is up for three awards: best R&B Album for "F.A.M.E.," best rap performance (with Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes) and best rap song for "Look At Me Now."
Rihanna will also perform at the event, along with Adele, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Glen Campbell, Paul McCartney, Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, Coldplay, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.
Also new to the performance roster are Carrie Underwood and Tony Bennett. Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt will do a tribute to late singer Etta James.
The latest presenters include Lady Antebellum, Ryan Seacrest and Marc Anthony.
