Madonna halftime show features classics and new single "Give Me All Your Luvin"

(CBS) Madonna played it safe at her halftime Super Bowl performance choosing some of the classics from her 20-year long career, in addition to some covers and her new single "Give Me All Your Luvin" with Nicki MInaj and M.I.A.

The Queen of Pop entered the stage on a massive golden throne wearing a gold headpiece and black thigh-high boots accompanied by dozens of dancing Roman gladiators singing her '90s hit "Vogue."

The stage then transformed into a giant boombox and the singer broke out into her single from a decade later "Music." She was then joined by SkyBlu and RedFoo of LMFAO doing a brief cover of the duo's biggest hits, "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy And I Know It." The 53-year-old singer at one point sang on top of RedFoo's shoulders.

For those who didn't blink, Madonna was spotted briefly slipping while she was on top of the bandstand, but she quickly recovered with a smile.

Next came her new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin," with Nicki MInaj and M.I.A. All three of the musicians toted gold pom poms for their cheerleader-themed choreography - a perfect fit for the Super Bowl.

Rapper M.I.A., best known for her single "Paper Planes," caused some controversy at the end of the song while she quickly flipped the bird while rapping the lyrics, "Imma say this one, yeah, I don't give a s- -t."

For her finale, after an interlude of "Open Your Heart" with Cee-Lo Green, she played her late '80s classic "Like a Prayer" with Cee-Lo and a massive robed  choir. When the singer finished she exited down a hatch and the words "World Peace" were spelled out on the field.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Twitter was flooded with a mix of emotions about Madonna's halftime show performance.

The most commonly used words in the posts about Madonna were "amazing," "great," "good," "best," "bad," and "hating," according to the LA Times. There were also some more derogatory terms including "old," "seriously," and "retire."

Singer Katy Perry tweeted after Madonna's performance, "SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE @thesuperbowl #neverthoughtiwouldsay that."

While Piers Morgan tweeted, "Somebody. Stop. Her. My toes are actually curling. If Someone did this on America's Got Talent they'd be laughed (and buzzed) off stage. Truly diabolical."

I think she is great and I really enjoyed the half time show....

Not very good, but sadly better than the last few SB halftime shows.

I thought it was very entertaining. I am a 71 year old grandmother and was watching with my 72 year husband, a son 43 and a 15 year old granddaughter. We all enjoyed it and thought better than last years Red Hot Chile Peppers and a few more of the past years performance.

This is why I think Social Media will be the downfall of our civilization. We enjoyed it and I don't care what the rest of the country thought; but it is force feed to us by the media.
