"First of all, it's the Super Bowl," Madonna said. "I mean, the Super Bowl is kind of like the holiest of holy in America, right? So, here I am. I'm going to come in halfway between the church experience and I'm going to have to deliver a sermon that's going to have to be very impactful."
"I have to put on the greatest show on Earth in the middle of the greatest show on Earth," she added."
The timing has a lot to do with Madge's pre-show jitters.
"I have eight minutes to set it up and seven minutes to take it down," she said. "I have 12 minutes to put on the greatest show on Earth. Okay, that's a lot of pressure."
The Super Bowl appearance comes two days after the release of Madonna's new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin,'" featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. The track will appear on the singer's upcoming album, "MDNA," due out March 26.
Although Madonna kept hush hush on which songs she'll be singing, TMZ posted photos of the stage set-up, and the word "Vogue" was lit up on the floor panels. Perhaps a clue?
The New York Giants will take on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, which airs Sunday night on NBC.
