Daniel Radcliffe defends Lana Del Rey's "SNL" performance

(CBS) Daniel Radcliffe, who hosted "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend, is defending musical guest Lana Del Rey's performance on the show, which has been blasted by many critics.

The singer, whose album has yet to be released, was once praised on the blogosphere for her single "Video Games," but after her "SNL" performance critics called her live show off-key and just plain awkward.

"It was unfortunate that people seemed to turn on her so quickly," Radcliffe said at the BAFTA awards nominations, reports Reuters.

"I also think people are making it about things other than the performance," the "Harry Potter" actor said. "If you read what people are saying about her online, it's all about her past and her family, and stuff that's nobody else's business."

Before her appearance on "SNL" most of the singer's critics had problems with her past, citing her name change (she was born Elizabeth Grant), her millionaire father, and her first album titled "Lana Del Ray" released in Jan. 2010, which has since been deleted from iTunes so she could start fresh with her new album, "Born to Die."

After her performance on "SNL," even celebrities chimed in the discussion.

"Just watched SNL. Not only was @LanaDelRey vocally WAY off, but watching her utter lack of stage presence was cringe-worthy. #DontBuyTheHype," tweeted Perez Hilton.

"Who....is....this wack-a-doodle chick performing on #SNL..? Whaaaaa?"tweeted actress Eliza Dushku.

Brian Williams even slammed Del Rey's performance, calling it "one of the worst outings in SNL history." The NBC Nightly News anchor wrote that in an email to Gawker chief Nick Denton, which was intended to be a private message, according to Reuters.

"Wow watching this 'singer' on SNL is like watching a 12 year old in their bedroom when they're pretending to sing and perform. #signofourtimes," Juliette Lewis wrote on Twitter, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The tweet has since been deleted.

Lewis has since seemed to change her mind a little bit about Del Rey tweeting, "I woke up singing a @LanaDelRey song! Such great haunting melodies! Regardless of my own taste LIVE she's a #FreshandYummy songwriter. Period."

Del Rey's debut album will be released on Jan. 31

Wow lot's of dislike directed towards LDR...just don't buy the album people. She'll get the hint.To shred her is a little over the top. I saw her performance, and relized right then and there I'm not looking to buy a download, T-shirt, or concert tickets.
