Beyonce takes heat for apparent lighter shade in promo image

(CBS) Does Beyonce appear a shade or two lighter in her album promotional image? The new mom is taking heat from critics who are wondering if the image has been digitally altered to give the pop star a lighter complexion.

The photo, released to promote the 2011 album "4," finds Beyonce dressed in a bodysuit and lying on a leopard skin couch with blonde hair and bleached eyebrows.

Some news outlets and blogs are questioning whether the image was digitally altered. But others say, it could just a result of studio lighting.

Beyonce experienced a similar situation back in 2008 with a L'Oreal ad.

A dark skinned girl tries some pictures with lighter skin and lighter hair ... big problem. Grow up people, women like to change their hair, skin color, even eye color. I am simply trying to ask an honest question so please take this in the spirit it is intended and don't get all bent out of shape.

Is there anyone here who can explain to me why Hispanic and black women and men *want* to look lighter than what they are? I don't understand what the deal is...

As a woman, I can understand wanting to have smoother skin, less wrinkles, less lines, less hair, or the wanting to appear taller, shorter, slimmer, etc., but I just don't understand why so many Blacks and Hispanics seem to be so caught up in the 'shade' of their complexions. Is that what started the whole "appeal' thing for so many mixed marriages these days; so their children will be lighter?; Reply to this comment

Everything about this picture looks like a white girl. I couldn't even tell it was Beyonce. BUT, if she wants to look white, she can look white and we can all post comments about whether we like it or not. She is much prettier looking like the black women she is, but to each his/her own.
