(CBS) Could there be a new addition to the royal family?

Prince William and Kate were photographed in North Wales recently, taking a stroll with a little black dog alongside them.

Reports speculated that William, 29, planned to give Kate, who turned 30 on Jan. 9, a puppy for Christmas.

If the couple did adopt a dog, the lucky pup won't be the only royal pooch - Prince Charles and Camilla adopted a Jack Russell Terrier named Beth from a London animal shelter back in August. Queen Elizabeth II is also an dog lover, and has owned multiple corgis over the years.

As a dog volunteer at my local animal shelter, I'm thrilled to hear that a shelter pet may have found such a great home.

And if Will and Kate DID adopt a puppy from a shelter, I have absolutely no doubt that the dog will be spayed or neutered. Not allowed to breed countless other mongrels, who will eventually have to be euthanized because there are too many pets and not enough people wanting them.

Just remember, about royalty dogs. When the Obamas do not have time to be with their ONE DOG. They have a dog person, to look after it, his paycheck. Hey Disabled and Elderly SS people, guess what this doggie helpers wages are. OVER 102 THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR. Hmmm, and you can't come up with the $3.29 for a loaf of bread. How unusual and unexpected.

I live on a small VA disability pension. On the rare occasions when I have to be away from home overnight (usually because I'm in the hospital), guess what? I BOARD my dog! Yes, usually with a friend, but I still pay them (or at least offer to pay them) a nominal fee. And if none of my friends are available, I board him at a local boarding kennel. And pay them.

The Obamas are not using your tax dollars to take care of Bo, so what's it to you?
