(CBS) Even though Katy Perry wasn't in attendance her fans still showed her love at the 38th annual People's Choice Awards, voting the singer to win five awards, the most anyone took home at the show.

Perry backed out of the ceremony earlier this week. While she didn't give a reason why she was skipping the event, the awards would've been her first public appearance following her husband Russell Brand's divorce filing last month.

The "Firework" singer won awards for favorite female artist, tour headliner, song of the year for "E.T." with Kanye West, music video for "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," and TV guest star for her appearance on "How I Met Your Mother."

"THANK U to every1 who voted for me for the @peopleschoice tonight! We won so many! Now I need to get more books 2 successfully display them!" Perry tweeted.

Why were the stars of "Supernatural" not even invited to the award presentation show? "The NETWORK's Choice Awards"? Possibly. "The Most Important People's Choice Awards"? Definitely. But "The PEOPLE's Choice"? No way! Who is responsible for selecting which award winners to highlight and which to completely ignore? The shows's publicists rallied the fans with claims that the winners would appear on national TV. Instead I saw shows that hadn't even been nominated (like ABC's "Pretty Little Liars") and stars whose show lost (The "Vampire Diaries" Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhaulder).
There were only two series that actually won in not just one but TWO categories: ABC's "Castle" and The CW's "Supernatural". The star of ABC's "Castle" appeared twice at the center stage podium. The CW's "Supernatural" stars weren't even invited and were only mentioned for one award (and not their most impressive win) in passing in a two second spot with no pictures, star interviews, nada. How do they get away with calling this "The PEOPLE's Choice"? This show was a complete fraud. The fans voted and earned the right to have "Supernatural" appear just the same as "Castle" did. Anything less was NOT "The People's Choice".
