(CBS) Lindsay Lohan channeled Marilyn Monroe for her recent Playboy pictorial, and now the actress' next role could be portraying another Hollywood legend.

Lohan is reportedly in "early talks" to play Elizabeth Taylor in a Lifetime movie about the screen icon's romance with Richard Burton.

The news was first reported by Deadline on Monday, and later confirmed by Entertainment Weekly.

According to EW, "Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story," would focus on Taylor's long and public romance with Burton. The film was originally announced as part of Lifetime's 2011-2012 development slate.

Taylor and Burton married twice - first from 1964-1974, and again from 1975-1976. Last month, the late actress' jewelry collection, including a number of pieces that were gifts from Burton, fetched $137 million as part of an auction of Taylor's possessions that sold for a total of $157 million.

Lohan's most recent acting credits include the film "Machete" and an appearance on the TV series "Ugly Betty." Like Taylor, who died in March at age 79, she found fame at a young age and grew up in the spotlight.

I don't usually weigh in on issues like this, but I REALLY hope Lifetime reconsiders. I'm a HUGE Elizabeth Taylor fan, and I just can't see Lindsay Lohan portraying her. It's true that Elizabeth Taylor had her gossip-worthy moments, but her philanthropic and charitable work in her later years outweighed her media scandals by far, earning her more respectable posthumous representation than being mimicked by someone who is currently as troubled as LiLo.

I would prefer someone who can play the role rather than look the role. E.Taylor had problems. L.Lohan has problems - unfortunately, Lindsay can't overcome her problems to show she has the talent.

Elizabeth Taylor was actually classified as the "most beautiful woman in the world", and Hollywood is going to have their biggest SKANK play her? You've got to be kidding!

Although I am not a fan of LiLo, if it's a pying job, let it be. Liz Taylor had her issues too. She did marry 8 times, right? She had drug and alcohol problems just like Lohan has had. Problem is now, there's 24 hour news to let us know EVERYTHING going on with EVERYONE! If you all forget, she was a very close friend with Michael Jackson too and she supported him through all the tough times he had with the courts. Lindsey Lohan can probably pull it off if she can stay clean....

This just makes me furious! What an INSULT to the late, great (and stunningly gorgeous Elizabeth Taylor)I will NOT spend a dime on this movie! But, lots of people will thus empowering LiLo. Whatever floats your boat.

A while back Lindsay said she wanted to play Stevie Nix and Nix replied that Lindsay needed to sober up first.
