Chelsea Clinton to report for NBC News

(CBS) Chelsea Clinton has decided to step out and into the spotlight.

NBC announced Monday that it has hired the daughter of  President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to become a full-time special correspondent for NBC News, according to reports.

Chelsea Clinton started work Monday for the network. The former first daughter is expected to cover stories that NBC expects to use as a part of its "Making a Difference" series, which runs on the "NBC Nightly News," according to NBC News President Steve Capus, reports The New York Times.

Clinton is not the first presidential daughter or daughter of a presidential candidate that NBC News has brought on to his staff. Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of President George W. Bush, works as a correspondent for the "Today" show and Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain, is a contributor to MSNBC, according to NDTV.com.

Clinton, who has remained largely out of the public eye, said she had been moved by stories of people making personal contributions to her mother's 2008 campaign for president, Capus told the Times. 

Clinton released a statement saying, "I hope telling stories through 'Making a Difference' -- as in my academic work and nonprofit work -- will help me to live my grandmother's adage of 'Life is not about what happens to you, but about what you do with what happens to you.'"

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Chelsea Clinton. It's good news to hear, considering they had Bush's kid on the Today show. Now, it's even.
