Listen to Lou Reed & Metallica

Lou Reed and Metallica

(CBS) Metallica and Lou Reed have been teasing their collaboration for months. Now a full song is finally available to for a listen.

"The View," the second track from the album "Lulu," is one of the shortest pieces on the 10-track collection. It thankfully has nothing to do with the Barbara Walters show of the same name.

The track features Lou Reed doing his standard talk/sing in the verses and Metallica's lead singer James Hetfield singing on what could be called the choruses.

(Click through to listen to "The View.")

And - hope this isn't a spoiler - it sounds like Metallica with Lou Reed singing on it. There's a (possible) bonus for Metallica fans who wondered what happened to the bass on "Death Magnetic." Robert Trujillo's presence is very much heard on this song.

Is "The View" any good? Will you pick up "Lulu"? Let us know in the comments.

This is horrid, the last two albums from these guys were a complete joke and now they top it off with this? Drums are out of time, lou reed sounds like he's reading a piece of paper someone else wrote, the song is terrible no matter who would be playing or singing it. COME ON metallica, get your act together, sheesh

Too honest. Too uncensored. too vulnerable for the mainstream. In other words... refreshing, primal...it's about listening to not only the music but the lyrics and the imagery/imagination they invoke. Better than any roller coaster I've been on. And I've been on more than my share.

Have a listen and weigh in. This song is both ahead of its time and reminiscent of the Velvets. How's that for a time warp?
